im seeing a lot of z32 5 speed swaps and was curious as to whether the auto transmission off a 95 q45 would be sufficient to handle power of a supercharged vh45de. i have an s13 and i will be purchasing a vh45 next week for a conversion project so im still rusty with my info on vh'sif i was aiming at perhaps 450hp would the auto transmission be sufficient?

also down here (australia) there is **** all parts for infinitis so if i were to fit a ratchet shift kit onto the auto transmission i would need to modify it fairly. what shift kits are common for use on the vh45 trannys?

All trannies are speced to handle lb/ft of torque...........the RE4R03A can handle 310 lb/ft...................however it has been known to tolerate 75 HP jet of Nitrous which might approximate 380 lb/ft.

The question is how many times and how would that decrease it's normal 150k life.

Are you asking about a brand new, factory remanned, or used.

On 300zxtt they were always internally beefed up if the mod produced more than stock!

Honestly I dont see why the trans cant handle it if you run a nice size cooler (maybe with a fan), and maybe a valve body for quicker shifting...

The only thing is you dont want to have mad power going through the shifts, thats gonna be what kills it...

The bottom line is if you can keep the heat under contro it will probably last decently.

if i remember correctly, the RE4R03A is the same auto transmission for the Z32 as well as the Q45. and in that case, its damn strong. You'll probably want to go with an aftermarket flexplate, but the gearbox should be fine with 450 hp supercharged.

whats the advantage of going with an upgraded flexplate?

Id think the first 2 mods youd want to do is a billet torque converter and a valve body.

The auto trannies are pretty strong in stock form, but the weakest link as far as i know is the flexplate which is a little brittle. The torque convertor is something I would definately do, and eventually the valve body. But if i was building the auto transmission this is what i would do in this order.

1. HKS ALC II automatic transmission piggyback computer2. aftermarket flexplate3. billet torque convertor4. valve body

any thing after that is up to you.
