iv ran into an issue with my truck and am wondering if this is something that is common with the nissans or a rare occurence. i have a 86 d21, with a z24 and 5speed manual 4x4 truck, and lately the slave cylender has been fully extending to the point that the slave piston pops out of the cylender and leaks out all the fluid. i kept fixing it and driving it and finally the clutch fork gave out and either broke or the springs/clips holding it in has snapped, because i lost use of my clutch and the fork is able to be moved by hand if i try. pulled the inspection boot out of trans and can see that the clip holding the fork to the pivot ball is loose, so im wondering what else could have happened? can anyone tell me what might have went wrong?

In the process of pulling the motor out to replace main seal, pan gasket, and fix whatever broke in the clutch system of the trans, and looking for ideas on what happened. pulling the motor seemed alot more simple than taking half the drivetrain parts off just to drop my trans, is this what everyone else does?

Theres a good chance your throw-out bearing went bad, given the year of the vehicle, if you havent lately it my be a good idea to go threw and replace alot of the clutch compents, I.E: Clutch, pressure plate, throw-out bearing, input shaft bearing (especially considering your already pulling the motor out), if your lucky it may just be the retaining clip has gotten weak from old age and is allowing more travel of the fork since its not holding onto the throw-out as well.

Granted it shouldnt be able to travel that much since its sandwhiched between the bearing and the pressure plate... keep us updated as you dig deeper, hopefully its not a huge problem but some of these guru's might be able to spot a problem before it turns into an expensive job

If you didnt have a problem with the slave cylinder before and you didnt remove it I would guess the fork poped out of its pivot.
There really isnt alot of stuff in that area for the failure. Before pulling the transmission back I would remove the dust but off of the fork and take a look on the off chance you might see it from there.
