questions about switching headlights on a 97 qx4 to 99.5 headlight

hey i have a 97 qx4 and i recently bought the clear headlight that comes on the 99.5 models. when my mechanic went to install it he said it was a different bulb type. the 97 headlight is 9004 and the 99.5 is an H4. i was wondering if it is possible to rewire my headlight wires so that i have H4 wires. if so can anyone tell me how easy and how should i go about doing it thank.

huh. . how 'bout that. I didn't know the headlights were different. I had to verify by finding pics of a 97 and a 00 model.

With that said, you can cut the hi / lo wires and match them up to the new plug. . shouldn't be a problem.

thanx. so it should be an easy cut n rewire all i have to do is cut the 9004 wire and rewire ti with the H4 connector? that sounds easy

Shouldn't be any harder than that -- I'd hold off to see if any of the other NICO members have done this, but being a 240sx guy and knowing the tactic for fitting 97/98 headlights on a 95/96, it should be pretty much the same as that.

H4 is simply a dual function bulb, meaning it has high and low beams, whereas a 9004 light is just a low beam...

no my 9004 bulb is dual function as well. it is a low and hi beam

im reasonably sure that 9004s dont have dual filaments like H4's do...
