Ive never dealt with this before so thats why I'm asking. Ive also been reading but my brain is starting to hurt so I need to just ask.

91 Q45, Bose sound system. Factory head unit is junky, cd changer is missing. Needs replacing. Stock speakers are on the verge of assploding, they too need replacing.

SOOOOOO...

Wiring in a head unit and new speakers, Ive read that I need to do all new wires, Ive read that I can use the factory wires, and different combinations of the two.

I have a new headunit and I also have brand new speakers, they have been collecting dust cause I never put them in my old car. As long as someone can confirm what the wiring situation will be ill have this stuff in the car in no time.

Up to you really.
If it's just a head unit driving the speakers, I'd use the speaker wire already there. (Saves you the extra hassle of feeding/routing through new wire)
If you really want fresh copper wires, then go ahead and run them through.

If you are installing a big off-board amp then I would strongly suggest you re-wire. If your only using the power head unit than those stock wires are fine.

I am thinking of doing the same to my 1990, does the head unit just bolt up to the existing stock bracket?

Im assuming it does mount to the stock brackets. Pretty much any car Ive ever had has worked this way, you just gotta figure out what to do with the extra space since the factory unit is large. Im going to see if an S14 or an S13 din pocket will work since I got some extras laying around.
