I have an 08 with the music box system and nav. I have a bunch of questions. Hopefully someone can help me out since my car didn't come with an owner's manual.

1) How does one update the nav data? I've seen DVDs for the DVD based system but I have the hard drive one.

2) Is there anyway to erase ALL the "music" the previous owner left on it without doing it track by track?

3) How does one load music onto it? I assume the CD drive or the CF slot. I loaded a BUNCH of music onto an SD card in CF adapter and it scanned the card for a while and then turned up with about 10 songs but wouldn't actually play any of them. Is there a size limit or special directory structure or something?

4) I've only been able to get the iPod harness to work with an old hard-drive based iPod. An iPod Touch 2G and an iPhone 4 both were not recognized. I tried one of the pass-through charging adapters too. What gives?

5) Has anyone checked with Infiniti to see if there is any sort of firmware update to get streaming bluetooth audio? I've seen a bunch of threads on how people have added it (I just ordered the GROM-BT3 satellite emulation model), but honestly it should just be a sofware update. On that note, do newer Nissan/Infiniti systems have BT and are they interchangeable?

I don't have your year, but i'll try to answer the questions:

1) You have to go to the dealer from what I remember...and it's not cheap.

3) I believe it can only be a CF card...or CD. It 'rips' the music to the drive.

5) BT is standard on most cars these days. As for streaming, if that Grom unit is anything like their iPod kit...it will be UTTER AND USELESS GARBAGE. My recommendation, is to ditch the OEM iPod connector and just install a USA Spec. unit (either PA15-INFI or PA15-NIS depending on your car - see my FAQ for more details) and use the AUX cable to play our music off your phone or non-Apple device.

Holy s*** that is the longest owners manual for a car I have ever seen.

Yeah, I was hoping that there was a, ahem... cheaper alternative. It did something weird the other day where the road had been re-routed slightly and the GPS just absolutely refused to adjust it's location. They must use some dead-reckoning algorithm in conjunction with the GPS coordinates to determine location (for things like going through tunnels).

I have the DVD with aux-in already so I'm just using a 3.5mm to RCA cable for now. Does the PA15-INF or the PA15-NIS do something different than the factory iPod harness, other than maybe work with newer iPods?

1. the 08+ models are hard drive base - you would have to order the update "Code" and bring it to the local infiniti dealer for the update - not sure if nissan dealers will do it either but you can call them and give them a shot.

2. there is a guide to go into the navigation diagnostics -there is a setting to reset the whole factory nav - i can't remember exactly where it is so you might have to play around in it to do it. - but i got my car to reset and delete the hard drive songs

3. you can only load/rip the music to the hard drive from CDs. I believe the max is 8 gb on the CF cards - not sure if the issue is with the car reading the SD card adapter - but i would try using a CF card in general. I personally don't like things sticking out that shouldn't be in my car

4. I had a Scosche adapter and it works fine with my 7th gen ipod classic

5. Bluetooth on our cars unfortunately are pretty crappy - even with adjusting the bluetooth in the nav diagnostics i didn't get much better quality - my friends and family still get an echo or can't hear me when i use to call them with the phone.

hope that helps you out a bit, let me know if you need anything else

On the iPod, I'm not sure. Does the factory unit integrate into the steering wheel, etc.? Cause if not, the USA Spec does.
