I'm looking at getting a 2003 Maxima or 2003-2004 I35. I also have a Pioneer AVIC-D1 I'd like to install in the car once I get it. Now I know that both vehicles have angled radio openings so the AVIC-D1 woun't fit in exactly. I've heard a few people mention getting the GXE trim kit for the non-Bose system and cut out a piece to make a nice square double DIN unit.

Does anyone have a part number forhis piece and a picture of what it looks like? I might try picking one up fram a scrap yard. Secondly would this same concept work on the I35?

There is a kit that's made for it, I believe even one that matches the woodgrain interior. Don't let the angled opening influence your car selection, it should work.

I tried a search and couldn't find anything . Try stopping by a car audio place and ask if they have something to allow you to install a normal double DIN in the car, just see what they have to say.

I found the piece for the Maxima (http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchant2/ ... 8750-VENTC).

As for the I35, I found a reference to a kit from a Taiwanese Market Nissan Cefiro. It's not an exact match though as you'll have 2 hazard light buttons (one in the new piece and the standard one down below) as well the wood trim abruptly stops at the HVAC controls. I suppose you could always just get the triem piece for around there too.

Here's a picture of what the stock I35 looks like

and here's a link to the Taiwanese dask kit piece, you can see what a I'm talking about. http://www.myi35.info/hu/index.html
