i have a 95 240sx and im really into it, but recently i came across a great deal on a 78 280z. ive always liked these cars but id like a little information first before i buy it. are there any common problems with this particular model? is the fuel injection system up to par? is there anything special i need to look for other than the normal stuff. i think you know what i mean. anything out of the ordinary. finally, can anyone hook me up with some links where id be able to find anything from performance parts to nice body kits? much thanks.

Welcome to Nico!they weighed about 2800 lbs and made aprox 150 hpthe 280Z was made from 75-78, all 70-78 240Z, 260Z and 280Z's share a chassis designation of "S30" and many parts are interchangable, they all had inline 6 cylinder engines, the 240 was 2.4 liters and the 280 yup you guessed it 2.8 litersinline 6 cylinder, 77-78 had slightly improved rear brakes, still with finned aluminum rear drums but now with dual piston slave cylinders, 77-78 also had a 5 speed manual as an option, the 4 speed is more common, manual transmission models got the heavier R200 diferential, same carier found in the 240sx and even the 350Z, 77-78 also are the first years to offer factory air conditioning in a Z, 78 was the first year f black paint available from the factory on a special package called the "Black Pearl"

common problems, RUST!look everywhwere for rust, it tends to get the frame rials and floor pans the worst, and this can make the car undrivable!, look everywhere for rust, it's the number one killer of Z cars, other than that the injector connectors harden and crack, and the rubber boot going from the MAF to the TB tends to crack and cause a vacume leak, other than that they are pretty well bullet proof

sources, MSA (zcarparts.com) is the number one supplier of z parts, VB aka black dragon is also a large supplier of replacement parts for Z's

I was under the impression all 280Z's (75-78) had factory option A/C.

The factory service manuals for 75 and 76 show it being integral with the heater assembly.

If it's a dealer option, the dash an everything would have had to been changed.

This afternoon I removed the heater/AC core from my newly aquired 75 280Z. It is a factory not dealer installed unit.
