hey im stuck workin with a family members car that is a 99 altima. im not new to nissan and ive had z cars and maximas, but never had to play with the KA24DE. i have to swap a motor out as the head gasket blew and took out the bottom end as well. i have not been to see the car yet and will not have a chance to look at it until i start work on it. i did get a used motor that i have already. so my questions are-

1. does the 99 have DIS?2. are the FWD and RWD versions interchangeable? and is there a way to tell them apart?3. did the altimas come in a stick? the used motor has a clutch attached and id like to make sure there will be no problems in swappin the flex plate on. 4. are there any significant year to year changes i should look for that could interfere with this install?5. are there any castings on the block or head that would tell me for sure what year it is and what it is out of?

ok i figured that it is not DIS and that the location of the dizzy is the giveaway, mine is on the back of the motor on the exhaust cam so that makes in a FWD motor. the only thing i dont know about is how to find the year.

i can help you, i have been turboing and tuning 240sx cars with ka24 for years, and i just bought a 98 altima which i am rebuilding now. i want to sell it when i'm done. cause i will end up hopping it up, turboing it and doing a 5-speed swap. i'd rather spend the money on my 240z or s13 not my l30.

1. does the 99 have DIS? Dunno, i have a 98 it has a distributer

2. are the FWD and RWD versions interchangeable? and is there a way to tell them apart? yes they are totally different! the FWD has a distributer in the back and have different valve covers, different timing covers (water pump is located to the side on the fwd, rwd has wp on the timing cover), the fwd ka has a single row timing chain up top, the 240sx has a dual row. the fwd block is not as beefy as the japan made 240sx block, the 240sx block has a girdle bolted to the bottom end for strength and has beefier pistons and thicker rings. the altima ka24 is hencho en mexico.

3. did the altimas come in a stick? the used motor has a clutch attached and id like to make sure there will be no problems in swappin the flex plate on. i think they did,,,, not sure tho, mine is auto, which sucks...

4. are there any significant year to year changes i should look for that could interfere with this install? not sure.

5. are there any castings on the block or head that would tell me for sure what year it is and what it is out of?[/QUOTE]
