Ok, everyone says that when you swap in an sr20 you have to replace these **** load of things for it to run ok. I was just wondering if the compression test and leak down test that the seller does to the engine means anything else but that its ok to swap in. What i dont understand is that if its ok to swap in how come everyone is replacing all these things? I mean besides that fact if your going to modd it like crazy.

Because your going from a Naturally aspirated engine (KA24de) to a Turbocharged engine (SR20det)....The Compression test will tell you what condition the 'motor' is in...but your not just swapping motor for motor, your doing a complete swap, ie. wiring, ecu, etc and again, to a turbo engine, so intercooler, piping, intake, mafs, etc is all differnent. Most people are buying engines to 'go fast', that requires, and implies that you will be doing some modifications that will insure safety to your motor, ie. intercooler, oil pan, etc...

is that the question you were asking?

yes, I bought a clip and *could* have just installed all the stock stuff and had a *stock* SR20, however, I opted for the "go fast" option and got lots of extra goodies...

That just means if everything goes smoothly and the car runs right when finished that you'll be ahead of a few people. You know what I mean. Your going to mod it anyways.

Exactly, when I put my engine in, I put in all new hoses, replaced the belts, and did a flush of the oil and cooling systems. I also did a bunch of power adding mods :D

A bunch of stuff people do because its a pain in the a$$ to do when the engine is in the car. Like a clutch for example. Chris

Ok, so the only thing i really need to get replaced since i want to run stock boost with intake filter down pipe and exhaust is the hoses, belts, and oil right?

Well it truly depends on how beat the engine is when you get it. Self assess it or have someone knowledgable do it. Things like gaskets can and should be replaced if they are looking not so hot. Headgaskets are easier to do with the engine outside the car.

Other parts like the turbo may be harder to check for problems. You may have to wait till it is on the car, unless its straight out seized already.

Ahhh but alas, I have to do mine with it in the car cuz it slips and I had no money at the time that the motor was out of the car :(
