hey,

just a quick question:

anybody know how much the stock rear seats in an S14 (kouki if it makes any difference) weigh? are they easy to remove? to anyone who's done it - is it worth it?

it's a daily driver (no need for the back seats), however i'm slowwwwwly trying to make it more track-ready...

thnx!

they are really easy to remove and really don't weight much.

the butt part that you sit on weighs as much as a feather.the seatback part is heavier, but still isn't too much.

well I can't agree with what heartofaskyline said. Cuz I know my **** doesn't weigh that much. It is very simple to take out your rear seats. Your probably talking about a total of 6 bolts to pull it out. Not very hard to do and i think its worth doing to save a lil weight. just my 2cents...

its not worth it weight wise...but it is worth taking it out so that you never have to take your car with your friends because its only got 2 seats

there are 4 10mm bolts that hold the seat to the "L' bracket hinges.

Then, those are held on by a 14mm bolt. So, that's one per side, so 2 total.

Then, the bottom seat is held on by a 12mm bolt on each side, so 2 total.

ya that would be wierd if your **** weighted that much. lol, but seriously, if the car is a daily driver, why remove the seats??? i hate people who strip their interiors for a daily driver that see's the track once a year. leave the seats in, and when you go to track it. take the 5 min's to pull them out if you think it will help. but if your gonna go to that length, make sure your gas tank is almost empty as well

Thats a good 70lbs of weight reduced for me

They pop in and out easy usually on track cars I will keep the mounting stuff to throw them back in. Occasionally I will have to use them.

how do you remove the metal piece ont he bottom seat? do you have to take a crowbar and force it off? i was thinking of removing them, but not too many people ask to sit in the back now so i leave it in. plus my cushion and box of paper towel sits on it so i need it.

The rear passenger area is so small the car could almost be a 2 seater anyway. Since I drive my car I never sit back there, but I feel bad for the ones who do. The s14 rear seat is almost as small as the optional JDM rear seats for an FD. I think the size makes the seats worthless, especially if you ever put a rear hoop in.

if you want to reduce weight, delete your power steering, ac system, heater core, sound deadening, spare tire/jack

if you're not going to do at least half the things of what I listed then don't worry about it, those five pounds will mean nothing

I have a s13 so I dont know the difference in weight between them, but I weighed my rear seats after I took them out and it came out to 15lbs.I didnt do it for the weight, I did it because tweed fabric looks much uglier than THIS:

so you think your gangster or somethin?

a 240 is not a two seater; hell its not really a sports car

leave them in- unless its a track only car; then strip everything.

So your saying the others are entitled to post their opinion on how they think a stripped rear is ugly but I cant post my opinion in opposition.

+1 for making Nico more like Zilvia.

You should be ashamed of yourselves.

on a 2800lb-ish s14, the 70lbs makes up 2.5%. Worth it? You decide.

Correct me if I'm wrong but, when did s14 seats ever come in tweed?

Gotcha. I guess the pic of the s13 interior explains it.

i think removing the seats alone probly isnt realy worth it, but when u remove other things as well, it does add up.

not too sure on how true it is so dont hold me to it, but ive always heard that for every 100 pounds u remove from ur car, it potentially knocks off a tenth of a second from ur 1/4 mile time.

i guess its all kinda up to u. im sure there is a way where u could remove ur seats and then still make it look clean for a daily driver if u wanted to.

you can have your own opinion...

but dont get butthurt when people disagree with you.

if you think its cool then go for it.

personally it looks like poo, even if you do it clean- the carpet doesnt cover the whole area and its designed for seats

i would say leave it in, and then take it out when you go to the track.

personallly. i think it looks like s*** also not having one, but due to my cage it must come out, so i will get some carpet and some thin wood and put it over where the back seat was and poof.

That's 70 lbs I didn't have in my car, so yes, it is worth it.
