It depends on if you are closing it hard enought. Sometimes the cabin can be a little air-tight, and when you just let it lightly drop closed, it bounces back and doesnt catch all the way.

Mine has this same issue. It seems to be much better, but there have been times when I had to slam the hatch down three times just to get it to latch properly. It will sometimes latch partially, but not all the way.

Mine does the same thing. There are two causes; latch, and the seal is very tight. The latch takes a second to "reset" after it is opened, and it does take considerable force to close the gate (tight tolerances, new seals). If the gate does not latch the first time, open it and allow the latch to reset, and drop it down from half open position with good momentum. I expect the hatch to close easier as the car "breaks in"

This seems to be the case, as where I once figured I looked quite the idiot, slamming my hatch closed several times, it now seems to catch most of the time. But, of course, I'm still slamming it down hard as I know it won't catch well otherwise.

Funny u mention that I had the same problem and then it wouldn't de-latch. I mean like i would unlock and hit the little rubber button but nothing. they ended up changing the whole mechanism .. according to the serv. manager it had "seized" up.

I have the same problem but only in really cold weather -20c and or -4f and colder!! I slammed it so many times to no avail. I lubed the lock with teflon, worked that one time only. Next time I'll open one of the other doors and see if the air back pressure is the cause. So far no problems only when the temperature drops as I mentioned before. Fingers crossed!!!

Wow lots of pple with hatch problems. I'm having no problem at all. Closes every time. My mother in law has a Toyota Camry whose trunk I can never get closed. She has figured it out and can usually get it on the second or third try but I give up after about 10 tries.
