Anyone running a lightened flywheel in their s13 KA24DE drift machine?I'm curious as to how many people have done the swap and if there are any draw backs to drifting with a lightened Fw.

I've searched on the lightened flywheel now for a few weeks because I will be installing a new clutch, short shifter, and possibly lightened flywheel( getting hooked up from a friend who has a shop) but I couldn't find much on people who drift with a lightened flywheel in their s13 KA, although I have seen people mention they have it and in other posts mention they drift I have found very little feedback on how it affects the KA's ability to slide because of how some say it changes the engines RPM nature.

Thanks again all

why exactly are u interested in it for drifting is the real question..

the results of a lightened wheel are that it revs quicker.. the down fall is it drops revs quicker.. u have to manage your throttle a little quicker to keep it form falling out of the rev range on shifts that would lead to a shiftlock result on downshift and falling out of the powerband on upshift.. but it would rev quicker when flooring it so u could power out of a situation a little easier..

from my experience a kas powerband isnt in the hi rpm in fact when u get to high in the rev range u need to upshift to keep the revs at the right range to keep the car sliding at angle.. making it rev quicker would move u through the powerband quicker but could place problems with sliding it by making u have to upshift sooner or in a bad place on the course like just before a transition where u would have to drop throttle anyway to change direction..

its a 50/50.. on some courses it would benifit and some it wouldnt so .. it really is just up to driver preference.. your style of driving and what u want out of the car.. i told u what it does and situations where it would benifit and hurt so u choose what u want.. i would see money spent better otherwise on stuff that has more of a full on positive side.. but its your car set it up to your preference..

tahts what drifting is about .. driver control of their car and how it responds to inputs. good luck with your project. keep us updated.
