i am lookin into this as well. your current situation, no. they arent even gonna look at your ecu. they will be lookin at your emission equipment more than anything. cali has different reqirements than that of federal law for emissions components. im goin down to my boys shop tomarrow, theres a ref next door that we talk to. ill see what i can find out. are you sure yours is a federal car, or are you just guessin cuz you bought it outa state?

i know mines is a federal cause i did my research already and i tested 4 different type of ecu's to see which one will work on my 240... i found a site on jwt site they even listed all the nissan ecu core id list and found out that my old or should i say the ecu that comes with my 240 is a11-b44-g07 and thats a federal ecu the ecu on my 240 rite now is a11-b46-b75 and thats a california thats y my 240 is throwing a engine check light forgot what code is it.. i found an auto ecu code is a11-b45-g71 and thats a federal ecu and i dont know if i put it on and when to the ref and dont know if it will pass. i know that the auto idle a little different the the manual and it dont have the govern in it.

ok, talked to BAR today, and most of my assumptions were right. 49 stae vehicle will have to have all emissions equipment for the california crtified version of said vehicle. pending on that vehicle it can get very expensive. however, from what ive seen, there arent too many differences on the 240. im not currently working so i do not have access to the emissions book to know exactly what they are. if you call/or go to any smog station, they will be more than glad to show you. once you have all emissions equpment hooked up and functioning, then its just a matter of goin to a bar/smog station just like a regular smog. i couldnt find out about fees for registration for the fact that im not willing to stay on hold for 2 f###ing hours for cali dmv. lemme know if that helps or if you have anymore questions as far as the smoging portion

All of the emmisions equipment are identical the main difference is in the EGR valve. The california model has a sensor located here that lets the ECU know that the EGR valve is working properly by picking up on the hot air going by when the valve opens. Thats why your Cali ECU gives you a check engine light because there is no sensor signal coming to it.

i knew about that one, and yyes your right. i just havent taken the time to see what the other differences were. i know there isnt much. gotta love nissan for that. somecars ive seen, its cheaper to buy another 4000 dollar car than it is to convert em
