Ok, so i have an s13 SOHC gauge cluster, and i have read all around that you cant use a SOHC cluster period to read the RB's signal since it is DOHC, etc. now here is where my question comes in.. I have an R33 Gauge cluster, and sometimes i see people utilizing S13 Clusters but using a different tach from say a r32, or r33. so since people do that, can i keep my SOHC cluster and just take the tach out and replace it with the r33 tach, and rewire it if necessary?

i also have though about just using the r33 cluster, but dont know how i would make it fit. if there is any info on that also, i would appreciate it. i found a thread on zilvia about a guy using an R33 cluster and just rewiring the S13's cluster harness for the R33 cluster. here is the diagram.

Connectors are done A -> C going left to right as you look at the back of the cluster.

Wires are numbered top left -> top right and bottom left -> bottom right. This is also done from looking at the speedo from the back (aka looking from the wiring side nto the cluster side).

No number = no wire

S13 CLUSTER WIRING :A1 TMA2 ChgA3 GroundA4 No wireA5 BattA6 DoorA7 IgnA8 Brk (diff)A9 OilA10 Brk (handbrake)

Now the R33 one

So due to all this this is how you join them upS13 car ------------------- R33 cluster

C1-B3C2-B4C3-C5C4-C3C5-C6C7-A4C8-A6

i dont know if all this info is correct.

thanks,

cameron

EDIT: Also, another question... if i just end up going with a DOHC Cluster from an s13, do i need a DOHC Cluster Harness? or will my SOHC one Suffice?

just get a dohc tach from a dohc car...no need for the full cluster.get the tach and drop it in, else you can use an r32 tach but it doesnt fit well.fitting an r series cluster to these cars can be done but imho its a pita for what you get.

yea man, i was starting to realize that shortly after i looked into it more.

i have the complete cluster harness cut out of the body harness for the R33 (so no need for rewiring), i just dont know if i could wire it into the 240sx dash harness..

it can be done, i had an r32 cluster in my s13 years ago that i wired up and was fully functional down to the factory boost gauge and oil pressure gauge.none of the r series clusters are plug and play, you'll have to do some rewiring...if you want to go this route and are not comfortable with rewiring contact me at my email address and we can discuss options.
