I'm looking at buying this car, but it has a few problems.

"it smokes at idle, burns oil, and does a patch of smoke between shifts after turbo spools up"

the guy thinks the turbo seals are shot, and they need replacing or a whole new turbo. Does this sound right? Also, the compression is perfect across all cylinders, and the engine was just rebuilt in february.

what kind of car? if its a mitsu, it could be the infamous leaky valves.

bart rebuilt his turbo by himself (t25) so ask him about the difficulty....

its a 1987 turbo supra with a jdm engine with only 40k miles, valve job, metal headgasket, etc

the turbo is stock, never rebuilt

an easy way to check for bad seals is to look in the intake pipe and see if theres any oil in it. if so the turbo needs to be rebuilt/replaced
