I got a 97 q45, how many quarts of transmission fluid I need to do a drain and refill, I called a few Infiniti dealership they want over a 150.00 just to do this, they also so told me they don't replace the transmission filters & gasket no more just a drain & refill. So I want to do it myself, also what is a good fulid to get for our q45 transmission...

First, please pay attention to the stickies at the top of the forum, in particular From here out, please use more descriptive thread titles!

Second, for a drain and refill, you must match fluids. Now my question: What are you going to do with the 60% of the contaminated fluid that remains within the transmission? You will need about 4 qts. to mix with the remaining contaminated ATF.

Most BG shops charge less for for a complete mechanical ATF exchange than your dealer does for a drain and refill. http://www.bgfindaship.com

My final question is this. What makes you so secure in adopting the procedures of a lazy rip off dealer is a good idea for maintaining your car?

Here is a thread about the insides of a transmission filter after 233K miles. I am still going to replace the filter on my 99 but only b/c I'm crazy.

Each drain and refill will be about 3-4 quarts-just measure the first drain and use that exact figure. Buy a case of Valvoline high mileage transmission fluid and drain the pan 3 times and you will have done more for your transmission than most. If you're really anal then buy 2 cases and drain and refill 7 times.

Tech has said that a G50 transmission thats heathy will empty its pan in 2 minutes exactly. I don't know if that figure is the same for a 97+ car but I used it on my drain and refills.

Good luck and do change thread title.
