Question reguarding metal hose that comes off the y-pipe!

I have a 89 nissan 240sx w/a ka24de swap. I was wondering what the name of the metal hose that comes off the y-pipe was called, and if it is necessary for the car to run properly or can it be eliminated?

I assume you are talking about the metal pipe that comes off the exhaust manifold...That would be the egr feed pipe...It is necessary in order to pass emissions......

i would assume you mean the metal hose coming off the y-pipe, as you stated.

that is for the PAIR system. its just where air is injected into the cat to light i up. strictly emissions and you dont need it.

grab a FSM its full of all kinds of useful knowledge about these systems.

Its the one that goes from the y-pipe to a black box on the side, i went to the dealer and they wanted to sell me the whole y-pipe just to see if it even brought the hose.

The EGR tube is metal and goes around the back of the engine.

The PAIR valve or AIV is the one you're talking about as DJPants said. If you cap the hole in the manifold you can remove the whole thing. When I installed my Hotshot header I just plugged the whole in the manifold, capped two (I think vacuum lines) and capped the hole in my intake (it was a AEM) that connected to the "black plastic box" on the driver side strut tower.

After capping all holes and vacuum lines, I just dumped the whole crappy PAIR valve assembly.

The Y pipe will not include the pair pipe, I wanted to keep the emissions system so I had to go round about to get the correct peice, nissan dealer charged me 129 for both a pair pipe and a egr tube since the old ones were seized into the stock manifold and I was changing to a 4-2-1 header.
