I've seen quite a few people getting 30mm Widebody fenders for their S13s. Some even go for the big *** look with the 50mm rear fenders. I was thinking though... What would fit under those? 8.5s up front? Maybe 9.5 or 10s (w/ the 50mm fenders) in the back? With huge rear wheels like that, wouldn't it understeer like a Chevy Celebrity? I'm just curious... I know more of a contact patch with the ground is always a good thing... but as far as handling goes on the cars, does it screw things up or could it be counteracted with a stiff rear anti-roll bar? If anyone can give me their 2 cents it would be appreciated.

Please read about what determines contcat patch size.

Anyways, fit whatever you want under there, subtract 30mm (or 50mm) from an offset that looks good on wheels that width under stock fenders, make the paint match the rest of the car (unless flares are used), extend the neck of the fuel filler thingie/make fuel filler door flush with car, and drive away.

9" will fit under the stock front fenders of an S13, 10" will fit under the stock rear fenders. At least go about 9.5" up front and 10"+ in the rear, maybe 10.5" or 11". Wider wheels will at least be marginally heavier, and the tire size/type determines contact patch shape (width usually). Wide tires up front will create more steering effort. Wider rear tires compared to the front will add understeer. Yes, understeer will be decreased by adding more oversteer the the car/whatever. For Grip, wide = really good as long as it's legal for your class. For drag, wide in the rear = good. For drift, width is a function of speed, power, ability, and whatever is in the used tire bin. If it's for show, trends = good, and right now, the stretch is coming into style.

Well... I know what contact patch size is. Perhaps I should have said "wider" contact patch since the width is what supports lateral load. It was all under the assumption that with the wider fenders, one would have wider wheels, resulting in a wider contact patch, right? I was just wondering that a car that will see a decent portion of it's life as a street vehicle if, for example, 9.5" in the front and 11" in the rear, would have any ill side effects asides from the already mentioned increased steering effort and the obvious expense of such a wide wheel and tire.

messing with suspension geomitries like scrub radious, excess hub stress, to name a few are the drawbacks. Now if you've got a comletely adjustable suspension and can adjust the LCA, and thsily the static roll center and scrub radious, then it's fine....

but who is going to *honestly* be able to spend 5k on the widebody, 2.5k on the weheels/tires, then another 2k (or more!) on the suspension mods to make it work correctly?

I've invested a lot into my car, but I draw the line at 10k in mostly superficial stuff, you can fit 8" front and 9-9.5" rear tires under any S-chassis, which is more than enough width for anyone.

also, larger wheels/tires weigh more, unless you get expesnive multi-peice, exotic materials or MFR process wheels. (like cold forged two peice, or mangesium multi-peice wheels) which knocks the cost up another 1-2k.

there ya go. for more details, check the FAQ.-Chet

yeah... FNO1RC ahhahahaha booooooooooooo especially for 50mm overfender? man hell no. you'd need like 30mm spacer on 17x10 +12 with 0 camber especially since benson has those under stock fenders.
