Hello everyone,

I'm still lurking around :D At the moment, I've been around the forums and various sites pricing out front clips and motorsets for S13 SR20s and CA18s... and I'm looking for a little bit of clarification...

I'm under the impression that a front clip is essentially that... you get the engine and everything that comes with it to make a complete swap into the engine bay, including the wiring harness but without a transmission.

A motorset would include the engine and transmission and possibly ECU, but pretty much nothing else. If you need hoses, or any misc parts, or even possibly a wiring harness.... you pretty much have to hunt them down, correct?

In which case I should be fine as far as the stock KA transmission is concerned, and it should bolt right up?

Am I accurate in this assumption?

a front clip is the front half of the car minus the body pannels so it includes everything including the transmission and a motorset if your lucky comes with engine, transmission, ecu, and wiring harness

The front clip is usually cut off right after the shifter, you get the transmission with it. They come with "everything," and while most of them are 100% complete, unfortunately sometimes parts are still missing from front clips, just depends on where you buy it from.

Motorsets are a sort of "catch all" they include the engine, transmission, and the rest varies dealer to dealer. My motorsets are as complete as front clips without the frame or the steering components, and the gauge cluster is extra money. : ) My motorsets are about as complete as they come, most motorsets are not that complete. They have engine, transmission, sometimes a full harness, sometimes all the sensors, etc. Mine comes with everything which is why I don't do front clips.

Engines are just that, usually a block with random things attached, generally no transmission. Generally missing lots and lots of parts.

The stock KA transmission can be used, but you need to have the SR bellhousing. The stock KA transmission will not just bolt up without the bellhousing being swapped. Enjoy your day!!

Thanks for the replies everyone! :D I appreciate it!

I'm looking to sell my Sentra around the first of the year and on or around March at the latest. ($15,000 will have 2003 engine and trans with practically no miles on the powertrain any takers? :D) After I finally kick Nissan's rear to replace the Oil Burning Wonder engine, I guesstimate after that point I will have been without a vehicle for a total of 6 weeks between engine and trans. The vehicle's already given me more trouble than I have time to bother with, and I'm not interested in having a brand new car anymore anyhow especially if Nissan isn't offering me a loaner and I have to survive with the extra POS car my parents let me take home which luckily hadn't been sold yet.

I'm picking up a 97 S14 (possibly an S13 if I find a nice enough one) after that, and probably going to town. So. This isn't hoping and blowing out smoke either, I've been doing research and some pricing and am about to lay everything out and start figuring cost. Expect me to come around more often in the coming months :D
