Question regarding a J30 Oil filler base cracked

First of all I don't own an Infiniti, however my '94 Impala has had a lesson or two from some mid 90's tuned Infiniti sedans.

Alright so we are over at some friends for the super bowl and my wifes friend says "your a car guy can you take a look at my car"...... I should have run

She smells burning oil from her '94 J30t , its gettting worse, I take a look and the casting around the oil filler base has a crack! Big split, gaping gash whatever.

I haven't dug into it yet (the super bowl was on), is it part of the intake manifold or head cover?

Does anyone know of an online cutaway, schematic or can someone scan a page out of the manual and send me one?

I sure would appreciate any help, and indirectly I'm sure she would.

Coudl you take a picture of what your talking about?? Like the hole for the oil filler is cracked? As in the valve cover?

I can take a picture.

The crack is is right at the base of the filler neck, where it flares/blends/branches into the valve cover. I assume it is a valve cover I'm looking at. I expect that I will tell her the valve cover needs to be replaced, she wanted a cheap fix, but any flexible filler may get sucked into the valve train.

Maybe a task for JB Weld, if we had a replacement for when that goes horribly wrong.

Sorry for my stupidity, but I only got a 3 minute look at the engine.

When i did my oil change, had the car jack up sitting on stands, even then, i can barely see the tip of the oil filter. Are you sure you were looking at the base of the filter? and that is no where near the valve cover.
