Several weeks ago, my 1993 Infiniti G20 has been running a little rough. I had several things changed that I thought might be wrong with it, but that did not help. (i.e., fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs). I have noticed that the main problem is that when the car is in park or is idling at a stop light, the vehicle acts like it wants to die. It has only died on me a few times, but it always starts back up again. When I first purchased the car, it acted in a similar way, but only when my gas level was at a half a tank. I took it in to have it checked and I was informed that I needed a fuel sending unit. The mechanic told me that my car was not reading the gas level at under a half a tank. I never had it fixed because, one, the money, and two, the time. So, I just keeped my car filled on full at all times and never left it get below a half a tank. Like I mentioned, until several weeks ago, my car has been running a little rough, but is driveable. A friend told me that my car might need an Oxygen Sensor. I understand that is a very expensive part and I am not prepared to spend that kind of money until I know that is what will fix it. I have also been told that my fuel injectors might be clogged. I have been told so many different things. If someone could help me, I would really appreciate it. Thank You.

So, just to be clear, the problem goes away when you have more than a half tank of gas?

An O2 sensor is around $50 but a bad one shouldnt make your car run that poorly. I'm sorry, but I think that a bad O2 sensor would be cheaper to fix than what any of the more likely problems would be. More diagnosis is needed here. Check the fuel pressure to make sure it's adequate. If you suspect injectors, have them ohmed and run some BG44K through the tank to try and clean them, or have a pressurized fuel rail flush done.Does the sender diagnosis make sense? That is, based on expected mpg and miles driven, should the tank be close to empty when the gauge reads 1/2 tank?
