I was wondering if there were any police officers who surf this forum and could answer me a question.

I got a ticket for an illegal muffler in Florida. I have an HKS Hiper and I know its legal and Im trying to get documentation saying it is but one question I had was that the officer didn't fill in the amount I needed to pay for the ticket. I was gonna take it to court and say that he failed to follow procedures for filling out a ticket. Do you think it will work? My backup plan is to show them the paperwork saying it is legal in Florida.

Can anyone help?Thanks a bunch.

When HKS says it's legal in Florida, are you sure they are talking about the noise level?

What about the rest of your exhaust? Do you have a Cat or a test pipe? Do you have an Intake? All of these could contribute to your car being louder than normal.

I am not sure about Florida, but in Rhode Island they have to perform a test with a dB meter. Find out what the testing requirements are (call the police station) and pick up a meter at Radio Shack (about $25) and see if it passes before your court date.

If you have an illegal exhaust, i.e. no cat, I would probably just find out how much the ticket is and pay it and save myself a potential monster headache. It's a non-points violation in your state, right?

get a copy of the ticket and post it here. Maybe u don't hab to pay for it. Send it to da court and get a copy of dat ticket. And call HKS comp. and get da paper dat show HKS Hiper is legal in ur state. I think u should send dat paper w/ da ticket.

Well I know that they teach proper English in WA cause Speedracer uses fine grammar. Doesn't it take longer to type improperly? Cause I know for me it does.

I do have my stock catalytic converter and I do have an intake but the thing was I got pulled over on the turnpike doing 65 which is B.S. I have no dubs or anything. It was an undercover cop too sitting on the side of the road. It looks stock with the exhaust. I think he just saw that I had an exhaust and discriminated me. Plus it was at the end of the month so I figured he needed to get a quick ticket.I called HKS a week ago but they faxed me information saying it met California Statute and it was 50 state legal but he only faxed me information that it was legal in California :(. There statute states that it has to be less than 95 db measuring 20 inches away from the tip and in Florida they say anything over 35mph has to be like um.... 83 or 82 db. I was gonna buy a decibel reader but having a controlled testing environment is hard having to go 65 mph. I'm probably gonna call HKS again and see if they could write it on there for me.

I think I got a lucky S13 cause for that many miles Im still running strong with no major problems. and yes Im pretty shocked that I ran a 15.5 too and it was funny cause I beat a porsche boxster by luck...hehe...his clutch slipped so I got lucky. Just had a good 60' and reaction time, ran race gas and adjusted my timing to 24 degrees.

I just dont want that S.O.B. giving me a ticket that I didn't do wrong.

I was just poking fun at IZCMAN because he insists on say "de" instead of "the" and "dat" instead of "that"....its kind of a pet peeve...people being to lazy to use proper English and punctuation...I know this isn't an English class, but I think using proper technique is just a way to show respect to the other members, so they don't have to reread your post a half-dozen times before understanding it...
