Ok, some of you may remember I am looking at a '95 240sx with some paint problems. I am trying to figure out what the best way the fix the paint on the roof would be. There are two faded spots (faded to black, the car is dark blue), each about 2"x4" and ovular in shape right above the driver's door.

What would be my best approach to making it look decent again? I don't know how good touch up paint is or if it could cover that area, I've never used it. Would that possibly work or is it too much area to cover? If that fails, how much would it cost to repaint the roof? Would it be worth it to paint just the roof or would it look weird on the rest of the car, which has the normal wear and tear of an 8 year old car?

Thanks for your help guys :)

Touch up paint won't look right on faded areas, its too thick, TRUST ME!!! Also, I think the best way to make it look RIGHT is to paint the car again. If you do the prep work yourself, I am sure you can get a decent deal somewhere.

I know thats not what you WANT to hear, but its probably the truth! Sorry I had to be the one to tell ya....... GOOD LUCK!!!

????? I really don't understand what you are trying to ask???

Do you mean where you have a scratch?? Yes, it will cover a scratch, but you have to be very very careful, especially w/metallic paints!

UGH! You're probably right... would touch up paint help until I decided to repaint it, or would it just look worse? It's not horrible right now because the paint is dark blue and the faded part is pretty much black, but you can definately tell they are there because they are so big :)

Anyone else have any suggestions on anything that could be done to alleviate it?

that is most likely what I'll do if I buy the car... I have to buy a car by June because I am moving into an apartment with another guy who doesn't have a car:(

I'll still buy a 240, just not the SE I hoped for... I'm sure just the fact that I will actually own one of these bad boys will hold me over for a few years:D

sorry i wasnt making any sense. What I was asking was that, recently someone hit my car and left their paint color in my bumper (my car white, their car black) So I have black paint stripes on my bumper. will touch up paint able to cover that black spot so that I have a fully white bumper again?hope this made more sense

What you need to do is get some buffing compound, scracth and swirl remover, and a few other steps in the meguires line. after you're done, claybar and wax your whole car. That should take off the black smudges from your bumper.

Sorry to break it to ya, but with the size of the paint fade, I dont think that touch up paint would make it look bad, probably more evident, because it never goes on smooth. A whole new paint job would probably be a better idea.
