hello, i have a 1995 240sx and just got some new tires put on, the steering wheel has been shaking, and now that the tires are balanced i am thinking alignment, i also just remembered coming home late one night sleep and hitting a big rock on the right side front tire, another reason leading me to believe it is alignemnet, so where is a good place to get it done, around bay area cali?

also, the facotory specs say 29psi all around, is that too low for 205-55-16 kumho ecsta mx's or should i stick with it?

please help me sleep better at night! hehethanks!!

I run 32psi on my tires... probably should drop it, but it seems a little bit smoother. Ummm another thing to check is your steering linkage ends.... where they mount to the wheel hub (right?)if those get worn your wheel will shake. definitly get an alignment if it has been more than a year since the last one. or if you just got the car, go get one... people don't want to put money into a car they are trying to sell

You might have damaged the tire if you're getting a vibration.

Alignments don't usually cause vibrations.

And if you had the vibration before, it could be a plethora of things. Bent wheel, tension rod bushing, tie rod ball joint, ect...

hmm, well i just had my new tires put on and balanced so i am thining if the wheel was bent they would have caught it right? i am going to get an alignment today and let u guys know whats going on. is there a way to check tension rod bushings, tie rod ball joint, etc by myself? and waht could be the more probable reasons for the steering wheel vibrating so i can tell a mechanic to check

thanks!!

I doubt they'd see the dent unless it was severe. Putting a bare wheel on the balancing machine will give you an idea if the wheel is bent or not.

The tension rod is attached to the lower control arm and the subframe. On the subframe side of it, there is a big ***, liquid filled bushing. If that bushing is cracked, leaking, or empty; it will cause vibration issues. The tie rods are what steers your car. Attached to the hub is your tie rod end. If it looks cracked, corroded and leaky, it should be replaced. Also, if the tie rod boots are damaged (on the inner part of the rod towards the center of the car), your inner tie rods could be damaged as well.
