1. Yes, insert the CD (I have mine set to auto record, so as soon as I insert a CD in the dash slot it starts recording) Once it's picked up the album and song titles, you can switch to the music box/radio/compact flash etc and it will continue to record the CD to the music box hard drive. I bring 6-8 CD's with me each morning and record them onto the music box while driving to/from work. Eventually I'll have all my CD's recorded...
Re larryk's response - if it doesn't recognize the album, you can select 'Transfer Missing Titles to Compact Flash' and it transfers a file to a Compact Flash card. You then put the CF card into a reader in your PC and run the TitleInfoSearch.exe that you can download from infiniti.com and it will look up the album/song titles. Then you pu the CF back in the car and it will update the music box with the missing title info.
2. I'm actually not certain if it stores the music in MP3 format, or some other proprietary format - I would imagine MP3, but I'm not sure.
3. No, you can only record 'music' CD's, not MP3/WMA CD's onto the Music Box - also 'copy protected' CD's will not record either.
Yes, there is a 512 song limit on the Compact Flash. Oddly if you don't have Nav, then the limit is 999...
