Ok, so im only 3 days in, into driving my G35 Sport. I absolutely LOVE the car. I still didnt get 100% familiar with it as far as the entire GPS/Music box etc...

I have couple of questions:1) Can I copy music into the music box without having me listening to the CD itself. As I understand, the system tranfers all .WAV files into and MP3 format and stores them on the hard drive. 2) If I already have a CD with bounch of MP3 files on them, why cant I copy them into the hard drive? Or am i doing something wrong?

Anybody uses this hard drive? any reccomendations?

Thank you very much.Alik

Heres the scoop. If you have cds with MP3s on them - they will play only in the CD (dash) player. The trunk CD Changer will not play MP3s. The music will copy to the hard drive when you put in the cd and select "copy". Select the highest bit rate in settings beforehand. The cd will be ripped completely in the time you play 2 songs. You them can remove the cd and play the music form the Music box. I have found out that if it is a new cd, the song and album titles will not be in the Gracenote software and you will get only "track 1" on the screen. I suppose you can go back later and add album names and track names. I do not know if gracenote software up grades will be available. You can not copy cds that are already ripped to MP3s. You can play previously ripped songs that are on a compact flash card but I have heard that there is a 512 song limit to what the player will see. I havent tried it yet.

I hope this helpsLarry

1. Yes, insert the CD (I have mine set to auto record, so as soon as I insert a CD in the dash slot it starts recording) Once it's picked up the album and song titles, you can switch to the music box/radio/compact flash etc and it will continue to record the CD to the music box hard drive. I bring 6-8 CD's with me each morning and record them onto the music box while driving to/from work. Eventually I'll have all my CD's recorded...

Re larryk's response - if it doesn't recognize the album, you can select 'Transfer Missing Titles to Compact Flash' and it transfers a file to a Compact Flash card. You then put the CF card into a reader in your PC and run the TitleInfoSearch.exe that you can download from infiniti.com and it will look up the album/song titles. Then you pu the CF back in the car and it will update the music box with the missing title info.

2. I'm actually not certain if it stores the music in MP3 format, or some other proprietary format - I would imagine MP3, but I'm not sure.

3. No, you can only record 'music' CD's, not MP3/WMA CD's onto the Music Box - also 'copy protected' CD's will not record either.

Yes, there is a 512 song limit on the Compact Flash. Oddly if you don't have Nav, then the limit is 999...

Page 4-46 in the owners manual has some more info on this subject.

How do you get the Compact Flash without getting Nav? I thought the Compact Flash only came with the Nav package.

You're right - I know I'd read in the manual about the 512 and 999 limits. I've re-read the manual (P 4-37) and the 512/999 limit applies to MP3/WMA on a CD. The CF is limited to 512 perdiod, it seems - it is a little confusing since they talk about the CD and CF capabilities in the same section.

In the manual, it only points you to the web site.
