i'm lookin on getting some coilovers and am thinking about teins, but i don't know what to get. i was thinking about getting the SS or the HE. i know the HE are more for a drifting setup, but i don't know what the SS are good for. not alot of places to drift around here, but i do like to go to the track alot. i also like the way my kidneys work and would like to keep it that way, driving around with a super stiff susp. would tend to suck after a while. what would be a better application for my car in your opinions.

anyone who has either one of these setups, feel free tell me how you like them and what you dis like about them as well.

yes i did a search as well

IF your not going to see track use, the SS is made gor streetability, like the TEIN basic, and should work great.

the HE is overkill for a car that wont ever see any track duty.(that is, unless you love the road-racing car ride...like me, but my car will see track use.heh.)-chet

can you actually tell that the HE are for drift, or do they do just as good on a road course or autox and whatnot?

I dont know how TEIN determined they were "drift" coils, they work excellently for Russ on his autocrossing, and for many people road racing...I'll borrow dori-dories quote:"Most guys drift setups are their track setups"

i love my hes they work great for everything i throw at them grip on the passes and drift in the parking lot.....just watch the shift to second gear going around a turn in the rain...stiff rear likes to slide when its wet..only thing that bothers me about the stifness is freeway interchanges with expansion joints ant the 405 through la its like a bmx track trying to clear doubles with those things on.

well i have a set of tein HE's....so i'll put my 2 cents in.i love the HE's...at first they were very stiff, almost unbearable. but after my first autocross event w/ them, i fell in love! they almost eliminated the body roll.

i'm with chet, i don't know how they determined they labeled "drift" coilovers. but damn, the car is completely stock except for the HE's and it was alot easier to kick the tail out. but i would advise to get a lsd to be able to control the slide or the kick back on the open diff.

so....if you don't see the track often or live w/ roads that have a lot of potholes then i would go w/ a less expensive set.

psafter about an hour to an hour and half of driving, my lower back is pretty sore. a small price to pay for a great handling car on the track IMO :asmile

hope this helps...and good luck

so the SS would be good for street and 1/4 mile track runs, or is there something better out there that you guys know about. BTW what it the big difference between the HE and the SS...heavy duty spring?

now, has anyone put the HE's at a reasonable height with the softest settings and driven around? does it make any real difference?

I dont mind a semi-firm ride, but I need a setup that will be effective for drift as well as getting me around town. Any input?

I have the Hes but I slammed the car and turned them all the way stiff. I don't see the point in spending all that money and driving around all high and soft. http://mtmetzger.home.insightbb.com/s13.html

exactly...

Plus this spring rates (8/6) are pretty high, so softening up the struts really doesn't help at all. You need them to be stiff enough to work in sync with the spring rates.

Consdier the SS or even just a spring/shockj combo from somewhere else if you want soft street use w/occasional drag.
