Im dropping the transmission so i can put a new clutch in.

The Problem- I can't reach the last one or two bolts on towards the top of the transmission and block because it is too close to the chassis to fit my hand in there much less a socket wrench... Any suggestions on how to reach those bolts?

my friend said to loosen the motor mounts and tilt everything back so i can reach them.... is that legit? any other suggestions/techniques?thanks

Try using a box end or open end wrechDrop the transmission crossmember and lower it down with a jack maybe it will give you some clearance.

I've never removed the transmission while it was in the car so I'm not sure

Your going to be disappointed, but you need to undo and drop the sub-frame about 6 inches. If the upper sub frame bolt head spins when loosening you will need to weld them to the frame to prevent that from happening. After the bolts are loose and the sub frame is dropped you will be able to easily remove the transmissions upper bolts. The sub frame has to be dropped in order to remove the SR transmission from a S13, I have tried several times other ways and failed only to have to do this procedure.

A 24" extension with a wobble on it will hit those bolts from underneath. I've had my transmission out several times without messing with mounts

You also drive a S14, which is NOT the same as a S13 w/ SR20det. Yes the wobble will work to loosen the bolts, but you will still need to drop the sub-frame unless you like damaging your firewall wrestling with 150lbs of transmission and cursing because the bolts hit the firewall before they come all the way out. so looks like dropping the subframe is a must... wouldn't u think a popularly drifted car would have an easier way to change the clutch with that all clutch kicking we do when sideways...

First off punk I just got out of the military and am 6ft 220lbs I don't need wheaties. I have also done it with a KA in the car. Second of all the KA has more room then a SR which makes it possible. The last time I checked a KA is NOT a SR20DET....next time your in MAine look me up I got a few things i would like to show you, punk
