Here is the setup I have on my S13. I have one 14" fan running on all the time.I put a small 10" fan next to it and connected it to the stock electric fan(comes on when you turn on your AC). Question is, can I put an adjustable thermostat on there so when it gets to say 210 degrees it will come on and also if I turn on the AC it will come on. Just a little concerned because Im operating at normal temperatures but summer time is coming in Florida and I dont want to over heat. THanks for any responses.

Just curious what year as there are 2 diff types of ac fans.

I dont really see the need if you are running the ac fan circuit. On the dohc (dont have any exact info on the sohc's) mototrs the ac fan circuit comes on with both ac and over heat, at I believe 220°. If you wired that fan up to the circuit and didnt modify the way it reads from the relay and the likes then you should be good.

To test it just unplug the 14" and crank her up. Let it run for a few (watching the needle , just in case it fails to come on) and it should come on.

This is how mine is run. I ran a new relay for one side of my altima fans, and hooked the other side into the stock ac harness. The new relay pulls the positive signal and ignition signal in from the cooling relay (to share the same fusable link and the likes), the ecu in wire (tells it to come on with ac / temp) I grounded out (same as the ecu does in that situation), and ran the power out to the fan. It comes on with ign, and stays on. Since I didnt touch the second harness / fan it comes on with the ac / defrost / temp like OEM.

BUT if this isnt the case, the fan doesnt come on for temp, and say, you wanted it to come on at a lower temp, you could use a relay. Just "Y" off the leads comming from the fan motor and run one set like you have for ac, and the other like you would for the aftermarket relay. When it gets hot it will trip the relay starting the fan. If its hot (fan on) but you trip the ac, it will stay on and just add an alternate source of power.

BTW I just rewired my dual fans (tried to use both the full on (low) and ac (high) operation but through doing so caused both to spin and go into ultra when kicked on so I left the second one off for the past few months) and while letting it sit last night with the single on, the secondary (ac / temp) one didnt even come on while at idle.

EDIT: disregard the sohc ref, as Im a tool and didnt see your sig.... doh BTw the sohc uses a 12" (iirc) pusher fan with 2 wires only vs our larger puller fan with 4...

Its a 92 S13. I wonder if I should just hook the 14" fan right dead in the center with a thermostat? What do you think 96_S14_SE?

I dont know about that as I overheated with a 16" dead center (direct to core unshrouded). If you shroud the intire radiator and bring it a few inches off of the core then I would say go for it. You are ineffectively on cooling 60% of the rad (or less) when its unshrouded, and pulling less cfm when its right on the core... Then again I do have an automatic, witch has the cooler in the rad...

Its relatively simple to make a thin gauge aluminum shroud without welding even... We whipped one up using an aluminum street sign blank from skycraft (off of fairbanks and I-4) for my friends Z. Just cut it out with a metal bladed jigsaw and bent the edges to fit.
