A quick update before i get to my question. I havent been lurking around here as much as usual, due mostly to the buying of my first home and spending all my time working on it. But also because my CA has been pretty much rock solid perfect for the last 10 months. So good that she's been my daily driver. Thats saying a lot considering i had a GT28R pushing 16 pounds of boost (550cc injectors, ROM tune, NISMO FPR, Walbro, Z32 MAF, deleted butterflies, metal head gasket, head studs and main studs, Spec stage 3 clutch, blah blah blah). Anyway, last night i felt like leaving my mark on the way out of work, 100 feet worth of burning tire marks. Well, unfortunately, i think i blew the turbo. Not a huge deal, especially considering that GT28R was one of those $400 eBay specials. It was totally my fault, i didnt warm the car up or anything, just turned the key and dumped the clutch. It did good for almost a year, which was more than i expected when i bought it. Anyway, with income taxes coming, and a huge tax credit for being a first time home buyer, im probably going to purchase a Garrett GT2871R .64 A/R, probably from FRSport.com.

Does anyone else have a problem with their SR downpipe hanging too low under the car? I have one of those SSAutochrome exhaust manifolds, a GT28R, a Megan elbow and Megan downpipe, and the downpipe hangs completely below the frame. It is the absolute lowest thing on the car. The elbow and downpipe are for the SR, but bolt up to the original T25 and now the GT28R. Since i am yanking everything back out, i was wondering if i should be looking at a different downpipe/elbow combination so that i can eventually get coilovers and lower the car even more. As it sits now, the downpipe is about 1 inch from the ground, but the car looks like it could stand to be lowered another 2 (i have Eibach Sportline springs). Any insight would be appreciated.

yea my megan turbo manifold places my 2871 pretty much right on top of my motor mount, the compressor housing atleast. I had to notch my motor mount about an inch or so id say for it to clear. That alone placed my downpipe beneath my frame rail, but it seems most hang below the frame rail to begin with. I cut my downpipe, brought it to a muffler shop and had them flare one end slightly and slipped it up as tight as i could to the body without rubbing which places it above the frame rail slighly...no low spots or bulges, it worked out well.

I havent have one issue with my trust 3" SR DP......... hell my DP has more issues with the steering rack than anything on the ground.

I dont have one of those Ebay mani's but I cant imagine the turbo sits that much lower than the stock mani does it? if it does swapping mani's is easy enough to do if you are pulling the turbo anyway.

not like th ebay ones are that much better........... least thats what people say

I was really not wanting to do a cut and weld job, plus the MR downpipe is stainless, and im sure thats harder to weld than regular steel. So i was just curious if there were CA specific downpipes or something. Something maybe like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ories

Also, swapping the stock log manifold back on is also out of the question. Im not sure what is wrong, but with that on the turbo literally sits on the frame rail and the elbow wont even bolt on, the frame is in the way.

the cheapest solution would be to bring it to a muffler shop and say "sort this" make sure if its mig welded it costs no more than 40$

if you want to get nit picky and spend more, have them tig weld it. At this point expect to pay closer to 100$

So pen15 welding aside, most people take it to a muffler shop and cut and weld it? I was just hoping to be able to replace the downpipe with a correct length one. Oh well, it'll have to wait till after i get the car running again.

my exhaust is CXRacing Manifold and Catback, eBay elbow, and i bought an SR downpipe and test pipe from a fellow member awhile back. i have to take it to a muffler shop as the catback is about an inch to short and the downpipe is at the wrong angle...should be to hard for a muffler shop to fix. for under $300 for my whole exhaust system, i can't complain

also, the CXRacing Manifold makes the turbo sit lower, closer to the front of the car, but doesn't hit the motor mount. with this manifold, EVERYTHING is easier to get off IMO. i'll take pics later tonight and post them in my upgrade thread.
