Question on boost?

Ok....I just got a new SR20 in my 96 240. When i hit the accelerator my boost goes through the roof..like 10 pounds at 2000 rpm. I am still breaking in the engine so i shift at low rpm which is part of the problem.. but i was wondering if there was any way to limit the amount of boost.... or drive differently so I hit 10 pounds at a higher rpm. my vacum line is at 20 and the motor is capable of 16 pounds but i wanted to wait before i really got on it. Thanks a bunch. noob sorry guys.

you can get an aftermarket wastegate that comes with different springs to adjust when it opens so you will have less boost
