Is the alarm system on the Versa a motion detection system or not? The manual says it isn't, but today I unlocked the car, started it, moved it from one parking space to another, turned it off, removed the key, shut the door (still unlocked), and started to rub off some dirt off the roof with a damp rag. All of a sudden the horn started honking and the headlights started flashing. From the above sequence of events, what did I do wrong to cause the alarm to go off? This same thing happened once before, about a month ago. Thanks.

Are you sure you weren't pressing the panic button on the remote? I've done that by accident a few times. You know...like when it's in your pocket.

The fobs seem to be able to depress buttons on accident all too easily. Just two days ago I had my keys in my pocket, and a couple hours after I parked my car I opened the front door in my house, with my hands full... so I used my foot to push the door open, and just the pressure of bending my leg upwards to nudge the door was enough to hit the panic button and set off my alarm.

No, it wasn't the panic button because I have that set not to sound the horn.

correction, that would probably be the LOCK button you have set to not sound the horn... if you could set the panic button to not sound the horn then you're alarm system would be silenced to since the panic button sets off the alarm system.

If you don't use the keyfob to lock the doors, and you remove the key from the ignition and close all doors shut (not locked) the Versa locks the doors automatically after 2-3 minutes, plus the alarm is also armed. P.S. don't take the key ouf of the ignition and leave it on the seat of floor, you'll be locked out. I had a close call a week after I purchsed the Versa.
