Question of transfer case???

Hi,

I have a 98 infiniti QX4 and I have a problem with the transfer case. the transfer case is in 2 part, the 2 hi the AUTO and the 4 hi are on a electric button but the 4 lo is with a stick. when I take the stick out of the 4hi to put it in 4 lo, it feel and sound like triing to put a manuel gear box in gear but with out clutching!! If I push it harder it get in the gear. In 4Hi or in 4Lo the truck ride perfect but shifting between scears me!

Any idea what it could be the problem?

from 2h to 4h u can shift "on the fly" while u are moving. my transfer case stick goes 2h-4h-N-4L. from 4H to 4L u must be stopped in neutral and I find it best to go from 4h to 4L in one quick motion skipping right past neutral. if it does go in neutral i shut off the engine to shift back into 4h or 4L to avoid grinding. the trick is to shift quickly

well u should always throw your automatic transmision in the neutral position when u shift into 4 low. and the vehicle should not be moving. i have a manual transmission so it seems to be alot easier

Ok so that Is my problem, I doesn't do it quick because I'm sceared to brake something!

Because I do put it in neutral, after the truck is completely stop and then I try to shift put I go from 4H to neutral, to 4Lo!

I'll try it quicker!!!

i don't mean to hijacks this thread

but in my pathy once i get it in AUTO or anything else then 2WDwhen im slowing down to a stop i hear a whinning sound coming fromthe transfer case...sounds effing great but just wanna make confirmalso once i shut it down there is bang effect once again coming from the transfer case kinda like if i banged a gear hard or something
