Hi, I was thinking of installing my own clutch on my car, and was wondering how heavy the transmission weighed? I don't want to do it if it's extremely heavy. But if it's light, I might as well do it right?

I know the RX7 transmission's are quite light, and easy to pick up etc, but is it the same for the KA?

Help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

I've picked up and carried both the KA and the rx7(had 3 FC's lol) trans and I would say they're close in weight

I think I've heard they weigh around 80lbs, so not too bad.

Picking it up and carrying it around the shop is easy. Taking it off the car without a transmission jack of some kind won't be. With the car on either ramps or jackstands and you underneath "catching it" it's going to seem a lot heavier.

When it's time to re-install you're going to need to get it off the shop floor, up into the tunnel, aligned and at the right angle. It can be done with a regular floor jack and maybe some bits of wood for leverage and a friend helping but I would bet it will take hours longer that way and if you get it partially on at the wrong angle and try to wiggle it you risk bending your jack shaft and ruing it.

Spending some money ($50) on a transmission jack with the adjustable angle thing will save you hours and maybe a crushed finger or knuckle.

I've done it both ways, I prefer to have the right tool.
