Hello, I have a 1991 240sx hatchback. Can you please tell me- either by picture or by words, about the hatch lock? Specifically, the metal rod and the cable with the round plug at the end. Which item goes into the lock's round hole? And which item goes into the slot? I am trying to put this all together and have no clue. Please help! Thank you!

Looking at the back of the car from INSIDE the car. Do you see the cable with the small round ball at the end of it? Does this ball go into the hatch lock hole, or the slot?

I would appreciate any help/suggestions. This is wiping me out. How does it go back together? I have the rod and the cable, which goes where? Please send me a picture of yours or just tell me, in plain simple language. Thank you!

Cable goes in the slot, and it looks like you're missing the plastic retaining clip/bushing for the bar.

Hijacker: THANK YOU! I owe you, man. I tried switching them around and the metal rod only held when I put it in the slot, but then it would not open the lock. I spent 3 hours (yes, three hours) lying on my stomach in the car, and another half hour outside the car, trying to figure this out. It never occurred to me that I was missing a piece.

I will try to rig up something that will hold the metal rod/bar in place- now that it makes sense to me that I must be missing a piece to hold the rod/bar into the circle.

Long story short: My buddy bought this brand new back in 1991. I drove him to the dealer to pick it up. He got married, moved to Seattle, and drove it for 20 years. Then he gave me the car. I have been working on it every other weekend and thought I would tackle the removal of the foam "rust sponge" trunk lid spoiler, and that led to the removal and cleaning of the lock that has not been used in 15 years (his wife broke a key in there, lol). I was putting it all back together and realized I never took a picture of it assembled, so I was clueless.

Again, thank you. :bigthumb:

Can someone please tell me where that metal bar goes? I'm having the same problem after I had to take my trunk lock cylinder out. That would be awesome if someone could reply asap

The bar goes into the hole. As pointed out by member "Hijacker"- I was missing a plastic retaining piece that held the rod through the hole.

Good luck!
