I'm starting the process (again) of upgrading my OEM audio system in hopes that I will have time to do it this spring. I've been looking at Crutchfield to do some research and to get an idea on dimensions (mounting depths mainly) for speakers in the rear side panels. For that area, they show that only a select few speakers fit back there (3 I think), but there has to be more than that. So my question to you guys is, what speakers have you gone with, mainly in the side panels, so that I can get a better idea of what actually fits back there. From what it sounds like, its pretty shallow back there.

My plan is to go with the Sony XAVW1 DD HU as it has one of the better and cleanest menus and screens I've seen. For speakers, right now based off of Crutchfield the 6.5" Polk db components. But I don't want to spend $400 on speakers if I can find other options. I've spent $200 and less before and have been satisfied every time. I'm usually pretty good at this stuff, but some insight and opinions would be great. And I'd ask this question in the Technical area, but that seems to be a not-very-well-traversed area by G owners.

Well, IMO it comes down to preference and your toleration levels for distortion.

I love very very clean sound / loud. I'd recommend the Hertz/Audison speakers I'm getting. $369 for components in the front and 6.5" in the back. Awesome sound, best bang for the buck hands down. Might be hard to find them though. Not a lot of people sell 'em.
