I did my first oil change today since I bought my Z and I couldn't find any post about this. The owners manual said to take the plastic engine undercover off the car before changing the oil. I went ahead and took it off but it took longer to do this than it did to actually change the oil.

It looks like you could just leave it on and not have any problems accessing the oil filter or the drain plug. The only reason I think you would need to take it off is because you wouldn't want oil dripping on it.

Does anyone leave this undercover on when they change their oil? And does oil get on the cover at all?

You don't have to take it all the way off. I believe you just have to take off like 3 screws that hold that corner of the engine cover. Its ok if some drips on, just make sure you clean it up real good after words.

i always take mine completely off, doesn't take that long and i like to wipe down everything its hiding while the oil drains. Also i change the oil filter every time so its kind of required to take mine off every time i change it. I can't access the oil filter on my 04 with it on....

ya, thats funny. i noticed the same thing. i took mine off, but when i put it back on, i saw that it could have been left on the entire time. i guess its up to you to leave it on or not.

Yeah after I put it back I noticed it's totally cut out to access the oil filter and drain plug. I'm going to leave it on next time and see how it works.

Its just easier to take it off. It's only a couple of screws. Plus you don't have to worry about the plastic hitting you in the face.

They must have made them different in 06 because mine is definitely more than a couple screws. It was at least a dozen, plus a big plastic clip right in the center of the whole piece.

Put a towel around it, and remember to take it out before you drive again.

Use Royal Purple and Purelator PureOne or NAPA (WIX) filters for best result.

Use a cordless drill and the 14 bolts come off in under a minute. It doesn't hurt to have a look at everything in there every time you change the oil.

Yes.. the rims/tires are sold. But I have the same wheels in 18". The 19" tires were too expensive. They only last about 3 track days. So I moved to the 18" size. 18X9 front 275/35/18 and 18X10 rear 305/35/18.

The wheels in that pic are actually the 18's.

Thanks for the compliments!
