so i have posted before about my bad gas mileage and really didnt get much help. well now i have another question hopefully someone has an answer to. so i noticed when i was getting gas today that i dont have that little flap in the hole where you put the nozzle for gas. i believe it was their before but is now gone for some reason. also when i fill up my gas gauge only goes up to just under 1/8th of a tank full.........i have no idea what the hell is going on with my car, has anyone ever experienced a similar problem????? oh yeah its a 01 I30

Dunno about the gauge problem, but the missing "flap" is normal on the Maxima.

Gauge problem is probably the fuel sending unit.

My max had a crappy gauge as well.

Top 1/4 of the tank 110 miles.From 3/4 to 1/2 tank 110 miles.From 1/2 tank to fumes, 100 miles.

The average was 320 miles per tankful. I had never been able to get better, unless it was all freewaydriving. If there was any city driving, mileage was crap.

There's an article out there somewhere that showed that American consumers preferred having a "top heavy" fuel gauge. It's about 5 years old, maybe someone can dig it up...

are you actually able to fill the tank up? mil light on? if you are burning that much gas you would get a mil light from the o2 sensors. maybe a leak somewhere?

what kind of mileage are you getting?

if you have:-good tire pressure-proper alignment-relatively clean car-fresh plugs, wires, air filter, oil (engine/trans), fuel filter, pcv-otherwise in excellent running conditionthen i think you are doing most everything you can. can always try seafoam. i picked up about 2-3mpg on my van doing it.
