Reason I'm asking is I've seen 2004 G35 Coupes with a button on the driver's side of the shifter (automatic) and I've seen some that do not have this button - like mine. The chrome trim just below the shifter head looks different too...

Are the 2004's that have a button early models that have the 2003 shifter??

Mine looks more like what's in the 2005's but with out the leather boot.Build date on the door tag of mine is 01/04

I don't know... I have seen some weird things like that too.

I went and looked at a 05 350z 6mt and it had the non rev up motor...

I thought all the 05's and 06's got the rev up motor. Then I thought that it was maybe the wrong gauge cluster. (red line at 6700 rpms)

but then i got the keys and drove it and the rev limiter was at about 7k and not 7500 like the rev up motors.

Crazy... any ideas why this would happen?

Let me explain with pics. Here is a 2004 coupe pic that I got off of cars.com. I verified that they did not list the wrong year by copy/pasting the VIN into NADA online (have access thru my credit union). I also verified several others.

Notice the button on the left side of the shifter.

Notice that my 2004 shifter does not have the button. There is also more chrome/alum trim under the shifter knob.I also found other 2004's on cars.com that did not have the button. Therefore, some 2004's have the button while others do not.

What I am asking is why....

And, lastly here is one of my favorite color cobras.....

That pic is from a 2003. The 2003 models had the side button for the shift knob, sedans and coupes. For 2003.5 models, it got the nicer one you see in your car. If a sedan has that side button shifter, it also has the little doggy door trunk thingy, and the manual gear select transmission thats also in the first gen M45 and 3rd gen Q45, not the full sequential found in everything else.

No, it is from a 2004.

You will see numerous 2004 G35 Coupes on autotrader and cars.com that have this button. Again, I even took the VIN and confirmed that they were in fact 2004 models. This was just one that I picked to illustrate...Click the carfax on it. Also, I put the VIN in NADA and checked the year.I also checked several others...

Not a HUGE deal, just curious.

Well my explanation is that it was replaced at some point by the wrong shift knob. That or the vin is wrong, or a weather ballon was in the vicinity. Seriously. I've worked on hundreds of Gcoupes and sedans, and the side button shifter is only on 2003 models, and were redesigned for 2004 models. There may be an exception to certain colors, i dont know.... i could be wrong, but I'll check monday when i get to work...

Cool!! Check at work.Has to be some explanation other than somebody replaced the shifter knob on a 04 with a 03 shifter. Too many 04's with the button.I've seen numerous.

The only 2005 350z that had the Rev Up motor are the 35th Anniversary Edition.

Apparently models built before 10 of 2003 have the side button shifter. Those built afterwards have the front button shifter.
