Anyone can answer, but I know SpeedRacer1 had a thread a long time ago on the boost pressure solenoid, and I need some help troubleshooting mine.

1. The boost pressure solenoid uses the Orange/black and Brown wires off the harness right? Assuming it is the Orange/black and Brown wires, which color matches up with the Black and White wire on the boost pressure solenoid?

2. What pins should I test on the ECU Pinout? (I believe the Orange/black is on pin 111)

3. What should the voltage be when testing the plug? I got 12V for the Orange/black. Also, what is the proper testing procedure?

Unfortunately the S14 FSM is no help because the boost pressure solenoid on the S14 uses a 3-Pin connector instead of a 2-pin.

Just a brief reply, the brown wire should be the 12 volt source. I may be able to check the wiring to the sensor tomorrow. The pin on the redtop and early blacktop ecu's should be 111. Late blacktops the wire may be at 106 or 102, not sure which.

J2/J3/E4/E5 uses pin number 111

Type X J4/J5 ECU uses pin number 102.

I just went out to the garage and confirmed that the connector for the boost solenoid is indeed the plug with the orange/black wire and brown wire.

The wires running from the solenoid (black and white) connect like this:

Orange/Brown -> BlackBrown -> White

Extend the harness plug about 3 feet (I had my boost solenoid connected to the mounting plate and onto the driver's side strut tower), plug into boost solenoid and you should be good to go.

Thanks for the information guys! I do have a Type-X engine, so its probley the J4/J5 ECU, I'll have to check that out tomorrow.

I just confirmed the Brown wire is my 12v source, but what is the Orange/black wire? Is it a ground? I tested continuity from that wire to a ground, and got nothing, could that be my problem?

see i wanted to ask a question to...but you guys didnt give me the chance yo lol but seriouly thanks for the info to! you guys helped me out a lot because i was gonna run the boost solenoid also because my type x swap came with everything except the smic! it even has the EGR green plastic sensor! but the nice thing is that my swap already came with the boost solenoid hooked up the way you guys were saying except i have one i think i have to plug up....its the one that goes into the cold pipe! so is that right do i plug up the hose that goes into the coldpipe?

It looks like its a J5 ECU. I can't get any readings off the Orange/black cable with the Multimeter. What kind of readings should I get?

Does anyone know what the Orange/Black wire should read on the multimeter? should it be a ground? I can get any readings of this wire, and suspect this is my issue.

Thanks!

Willy, I will be working on my car tomorrow morning. Its at the shop now so unfortunately I cannot give you what the output should be at the moment.

Expect a post from me at around 7am tomorrow.

Here's the troubleshoot section of the S14 SR20DET for the boost solenoid. Keep in mind that since your's is an S13 SR that the ECM pin number for the solenoid will be different.

*Brown wire goes to ignition switch*Orange/Brown wire goes to ECM. On the S13 Non TypeX J2/J3/E4/E5 ECM it's pin number 111. On the Type X J4/J5 ECM it's pin number 102.

Willy, you need to be 100% sure you do in fact have a Type X motorset, if not you will not be getting the correct voltage reading during troubleshooting.

Wastegate Valve control diagnostics (Boost Solenoid)

A. Check Overall Function 1) Start engine and warm it up sufficiently. 2) Perform diagnostic test mode. Make sure trouble code number 55 is displayed. 3) Stop Engine 4) Disconnect air passage hose to wastegate valve control solenoid valve and restart engine 5) Make sure that boost pressure exists undering the following conditions: At idle: Boost pressure should not exist Engine is racing quickly (up to about 5,000 rpm): Boost pressure should exist.

B. Check Control Function 1) Check voltage between ECM terminal (*refer to ECM pin numbers above) and ground under the following conditions.

At idle: battery voltage Engine is racing quickly (up to about 5,000 rom): Approximately 4-5V

C. If ok: Check air passage hose for clogging, cracks, and proper connection.

D. Check Power Supply 1) Stop engine. 2) Disconnect wastegate valve control solenoid valve harness connection 3) Turn ignition switch "ON". 4) Check voltage between brown wire terminal and ground.

Voltage: Battery voltage.

E. Check Output Signal Circuit 1) Turn ignition switch "OFF" 2) Disconnect ECM harness connector. 3) Check harness continuity between ECM terminal *refer to pin numbers above for listed ECUs*

Continuity should exist.

Hope this helps.

i have a boost solenoid that i dont use but it looks nothing like the one on your pic, mine has 1 big nipple on the bottom and 2 small on the top, anyone knows how to hook this up?

okay figured it out, its a boost solenoid from a gmc typhoon.works very well with a normal/low boost switch
