Tightening the rod (shortening it) will increase boost.

you cant really increase boost with it, having the wastegate door fully sealed is going to give you the most possible boost and without a boost conrtoller you can't go higher than what the wastegate is set at. Now if you lenthen the rod and cause the gate to not fully close it will lower your boost from whatever the wastegate is set at. So you can efectively lower boost howerver this causes slower spoolup time as a side effect to lowering boost since the gate is always expelling some exhaust gas so it doesnt spool the turbo as fast. its really a less than ideal way of changing the boost setting.

I would say an adjustable rod is helpfull if you are moving the bracket around for clearance/clocking/etc. and need to change the length of the rod to work with the new mounting position of the actuator in respect to the gate door.

thanks for the replies, the reason why i asked is because when i had to reclock the cold side housing in order to work with the manifold, i had to turn the rob 180 deg, in order for it to work.-Ricky

Umm, yeah you can increase boost with an adjustable actuator rod. That is the whole premise of getting an HKS actuator. It pre-loads the actuator so the flapper stays shut until a higher boost. Rotating it 180 degrees wont be noticeable... tighten it like 5 turns and then you'll probably see an increase of 2-3 psi... all depending on which actuator you have of course. When you get em really tight, you have to "stretch" the actuator to get it to fit onto the flapper pin... then they really hold boost, hehe
