Tonight on our way home we were driving the truck. Everything was fine and the truck was perfect as usual. I shifted from 1st-2nd-3rd then it would not go into any other gear. I could not get it out of 3rd at all. Luckily I got it home. When we got to the house I took the shifter assemble apart hoping it was maybe just the shifter or something. I have clutch pressure and I can engage and disengage the clutch just fine so I am thinking it is something in the rear of the trans causing it to do that. I tried putting a large extension in the shift fork and trying to take it out of gear but it was a no go. The truck is a 1997 2WD 4cyl(ka24e) with a five speed trans. I have never had any issues with this truck so I am kinda surprised. It has not once popped out of gear or made one grinding noise. Any help would be awesome. Thanks.

Check your master and slave cylinders... Check slave cylinder first... like a 10-15$ part from an auto parts store. my clutch pedal had pressure, but the gaskets and seals inside the slave cylinder where gone!

Did your truck get stuck in 3rd gear? I can not even get it out. If it was that I would at least be able to take it out of gear.

Try rolling it backwards with the clutch depressed (engine off) and see if you can shift it.

Did it go into gear OK when this happened or did you force it a bit? Did you miss the shift?

Definitely check the clutch master/slave cylinder. If the slave isn't pushing the arm in on the transmission, you know there's a problem there...

Also check to see if the arm is jammed... still should come out of gear though when its not cranked... something has got to be seized...!
