alright so im trying to decide which engine is best for me the ca18 or a ka24de-t(i have a 90 240sx with a crapy sohc engine thats about to poop out on me ).

either way im going to have to swap something in and both of these engines are in my price range but one is turbocharged and one isnt. my power goals for my car are 250whp(mainly for auto-x and daily driver). with the ca18 my starting point is 175 and with a ka24de its 155 but adding a turbo will increase that dramatically. my budget is pretty tight(around 3k CDN or roughly 2500USD). i will be doing the install my self for either swap and all the mods will be done either by my self or with friends(all the piping and **** will be done by a friend of a friend for either at cost or below cost).

pretty much i want your opinions on which engine would be better and also if its possiable if someone can give me a parts list to see what exactly would be required for a ca18 to hit 250whp. thanks.

Your not going to get 250whp out of a CA18 with $2500...

well the engine with everything i need to install it will cost me about 1300 so i'd have 1200 left(it will more than likely be more around 1600 im just looking at the lowest common denominator here). do you think i'd at least get close to that goal?

well if you don't know anything about turbo charging a non turbo engine then its probably best you just get something that is already turbo charged like the ca18. if that's not the case then it just comes down to preference.

there two different monsters too..i mean i love the ka for its torque but ive only ridden in one which pulled decently past 4k rpm..there are a few companies making nice ka-t kits so u could consider that...now i do like my ca motor better than the ka...its more rev happy...just feels smoother to me...now if i wanted all out power w/ little effort w/ a 4 cyl id go ka-t honestly...but 250 isnt gonna be TOO hard to reach honestly but 1600 aint gonna cut it, i mean that will get you your turbo extension, dp, catback, and maybe a s15bb turbo or a gt series turbo, but then teh ca maf isnt gonna cut it, and u'll need to upgrade your fuel system...not to mention tuning... so u'll have more parts to buy/money to spend...also i dont know how much experiance u have w/ cars but alot of people spout of hp#'s but havent ridden in a car w/ that much power..they just think it sounds good..my ca is stock except exhaust so it MIGHT put out 165whp and i LOVE it and it can hang w/ the best of em....start upgrading fuel system, turbo, etc....its gonna be nasty

whatever u choose good luck

thanks for the comments guys.

just to make a couple of comments. i do have the amount of mechanical knowledge to go ahead with either the swap or the turbo kit for the ka(also have a couple of friends that have done it). i guess i'm asking too much for the 250whp(which is something like 295 to the crank) but i still want to price out the cost to get to that power range so correct me if im wrong on the following price list i put together.

s15bb turbo: 500-750 fuel pump: 80-100injectors(gtr 444cc injectors off my friends skyline): 150chipped ecu: 200exhaust+dp(custom setup by my friend): 150vlsd: 150(just a stocker off a s13)fmic(again custom setup): 400z32 maf: 120

have i missed anything? i guess i shouldve been more clear when i first posted alot of the things that need to be done like exhaust and fmic will be custom since my buddy offered to help me.

Do you think 444cc injectors will be even enough? I would try bumping them to 550 to be on the safe side.

Oh btw piping but Im not sure if you can get that for cheap. um....battery if your not relocating? I would think even an SAFC2 just to be on the safe side.

the reason i put the piping that cheap is because my friend is only charging us for the actual pipes not any sort of labour(turbo manifold and dp for a ka-t for under 200 ). oh and i already have 3 inch catback exhaust on my car(i know its useless but i was thinking ahead when i bought it :p). the battery thing though your right i'll either need to get a smaller battery or relocate kit. how much do they cost btw?

$150 for the 444cc injectors? You can get used turbo eclipse/talon 450cc injectors for $50-75 used.

im pretty sure you dont..im sure sumone else will answer up, i think u may need the mitsu o-rings...cant remember

but as far as your parts list id say thats a decent estimate and you should be able to reach you power goal w/ that setup...now when u say chipped ecu...do u plan on having you own maps programed or are u talking about buyin an ebay mines/ etc. ecu...if u plan on getting customs maps id say yes...i know there are a few members w/ aftermarket "chipped/tuned" ecu's but im kinda skeptical of them as you never know exactly what yer getting...if u get a map made for you buy someone who does this then you know what yer getting (if the guy/gal is trustworthy which hopefully they would be since yer payin em lol)

this guy does ca tuning check out his site...u can find his email on the site (he used to be a member here) he's the only person i let touch my car other than myself

http://www.yellowmunsontuning.com

(mods i am not affiliated/in business w/ them nor am i trying to promote...just tryin to help kazuma out w/ his project)

a guy in my city chips the ecu and does a custom setup for it and everyone whos gone to him has walked away happy. also there is a s13 here with a chipped ecu that i can take with me when i goto the ecu guy and have him make a similar copy for me since hes pretty much running my setup except he has a different turbo.

DSM injectors are plug and play. Use the CA O-rings on the DSM injectors, they fit like OEM. With the DSM O-rings, it will be too snug.
