Had a buddy with an '87 similar to yours with a 3" body lift and 235s. 235s are about 28.5" tall. No rubbing, and IMO, that was as tall as I'd want to go with stock 3.54 gearing.
Same guy later had a '92 and ran 235s on it with just a Tbar crank. He did rub the front fenders and had to trim a little bit. You *MIGHT* get away with it on stock offset rims. 30x9.5s are definitely going to require some lift - a body lift is more effective than a suspension lift for clearing bigger tires. I think you'll find the stock rear end gearing is a little tall for tires that size though, and you'll be slipping the clutch quite a bit starting on hills, etc.
'98-01 2wd "weenie" trucks have a bit deeper gearing at about 3.7:1. If you can source a diff 3rd member from one of those in a yard for cheap, that'd help. It should bolt right in in place of your existing 3rd.
