If you find anyone that is an indepent that is good let me know in the Bay Area.
Good luck BTW, where in SF do you live, I'm in Half Moon Bay.
I appreciate your feedback Jeff!
Like you, I've dealt with dealerships that I'm not entirely satisfied with. One dealership I strongly recommend that you stay away from is Marin Infiniti. I had Marin Infiniti changed my fuel pump and fuel pump control unit and they charged me $1500. Unfortunately, I did this before discovering NICO, so I could have saved a lot of greens going through Joe. After the fact, my air bag warning light came on, the clock stopped working, and my trip odometer kept resetting itself everytime I turn off the engine, and the gas meter drops below the "empty" mark whenever there's less than a 1/4 tank of gas left. I brought it back to the dealership for a follow-up, and the service manager pointed to some fuses as the culprit. Needless to say, these problems weren't there before I brought the vehicle in but despite that fact he vehimently denies that it has no relation with the fix he has performed. Long story short, he changed the fuse as a "courtesy", but blames it on "because your car is old" and insist that I pay an hour of labor to look into the fuel meter problem again because it "has no relation to the work that was done".
I now take my car to another mechanic/technician called Performance Imports @ El Camino (San Bruno) and they're pretty good but they also charge close to dealership rates @ $90/hr. Anyhow, this new shop speculated that they could have shorted some electrical wiring during the change and that may have caused the fuse(s) to go out. With regards to the fuel meter, they could have bent the sensor near the fuel pump itself that could have caused the sensor to go bad. According to the new shop, it could all be related to the work the dealership performed so denying its responsibility is far from the truth.
I'm going to try Serramonte Infiniti as my next dealership. I intend to have a rail flush done, so hopefully I'll get better results. If I need an independent, I'll go back to Performance Imports for now until I can find a more reasonably priced shop. I'm satisfied with PI's worksmanship, minus the rates, and have seen a 3Z being rebuilt in terms of engine and transmission last year...base on that observation and experience thus far, I think this shop is a trustworthy Nissan/Infiniti place should you want an alternative to Dastunville.
BTW, I'm located in the Sunset District of SF.
