i've been considering an sr swap for my car due to my motor not having the lowest of miles on it. the only thing that i'm wondering is if you get popped with the sr do they immediately impound ur car or do they ref you? i'd hate to put so much more money into her and have it taken away just because of the motor, if any of you have any helpful info please let me know thanks

Don't drive like an idiot and you won't get popped. I've had mine for over a year and have yet to have a problem(not even an exhaust ticket). I even just got it smogged, hehe.

This is my solution. I painted everything black. If I get my hood poped, hopefully the cop will think it's stock.

BTW - It's a red top.

Even if they think the motor is stock he can write you up for the filter and then you would have to go to a referee which you will never pass at. I would say enjoy your car, dont drive stupid in the streets and be prepared to sell your car on ebay at any given moment.

No ****, Ohio doesn't even E-Check anymore(version of SMOG). Most cops out here wouldn't really know what to look for anyway.

Ive had an SR for a year. Things I do right:The outside looks stock and I never put stickers on it, keep the registration current. I put the carb sticker for my K&N intake right next to the intake. I run the stock manifold, oh, and I don't wear a sideways hat. Things I do wrong:Strait through exhaust (no cat), I drive it like I stole it and I love racing anyone who thinks they have a performance car... the more expensive the car the more fragile the ego.I'm always experimenting with different setups (which cuts down on reliability, which leaves me vulnerable to AAA with a gun; aka CHP)

for you cali guys

is it true that they have a "handbook" of what the engine bays and shizzle should look like from the factory?

supposidly.... ive heard the same too.. but i think its only check points...yes, we have checkpoints... they occur anywhere where police think there are illegal street whatevers happening... i.e. street racing, canyon running, and sometimes even meets if anyone does anything dumb.

Gawd I hope not; most cops are too dumb for college and to smart to be a mechanic.. so they don't know crap about cars. I'm sure there are exceptions to the rules but most cops I know (and I know a bunch), don't know a G35 from a Honda Accord.

and cops come in packs.. sometimes even with tow trucks ive seen the horror...

i really dont wanna get into the politics.. but its all a load of *people get shot, raped, and mugged everyday... but its ok, at least the cars on the street arent modified, thats the police's main priority

yea tthats crazy they take that sh*t so seriously out there

i mean i can see like a fix it ticket if you got something seriously illegal on your car..or you get stopped with like drag slicks or something..but even then thats retarded

i didnt think cops would bother people doing canyon runs cuz to me it seems like the "canyon roads"are secluded from cops....then again thats cuz ive never been to Cali

well the thing about our cars are, the stereotypes usually do apply. if you have a modded car, chances are you drive it a lot harder then most normal people. i try to keep my car around 70 MPH just so i dont get pulled over for speeding. dont forget, cops arent there to bug you, they are there to make sure everyone is being safe, and if you are out carving canyons, do you really think that is safe? the stuff we do to the cars is ILLEGAL. all it takes is one little mistake and you can end up upside down in a ditch or even something worse. ok that really doesnt make sense but jeeze man its not some cops fault that you break laws.

well getting back on topic since no one really answered your question. if you get your hood popped they'll just send you to the ref if they think your engine is not stock. they do not tow your car unless you were street racing.

Yeah what they do is they make you pop your hood and if its an sr20det they take the motor. Just messing with you, when they make you pop your hood and look for a engine code which is on the back side of the sr so they really can't get any info. But if they know a little about cars they will probably notice intercooler piping, innercooler, ect. Espeacially if it's after market. Yeah so they will send you to ref. but you can pay the fine instead but it's like $700.
