For any of you that own a CVT version of an Altima...

Have you had to do a full panic stop? If so, did your transmission act normally immediately after the stop, or did it feel like it "slipped" a bit?

I own a 2008 Altima coupe. I have 1200 miles on it. I have had to make a couple panic stops. I have noticed NO slippage whatsoever. The truth is that the CVT is one of my favorite parts of the car. I absolutely love it and think it is the best automatic transmission I have ever owned. I haven't heard anything about Nissan's CVT having such slippage and every review I have read has said that Nissan's CVT is the best on the market.

Oh, I was just wondering. About half to two thirds of the Versa CVT's have this problem for the first few minutes after a panic stop, I was wondering if it was just unique to the V or if the Alty and Sentra had it too.

Nope, not at all. It might be something related to the drive train of the Versa. Being that it is a entry level stripped down car, I wouldn't compare the Versa to the other Nissan cars. I haven't driven the Sentra but I can guarantee you that the Altima CVT will not give you any problems whatsoever. My only problem is remembering to let off the gas when I hit 60 instead of just leaving the pedal planted in the floor boards.

Oh, I know better than to compare the Altima to the Versa. The Altima is a wonderful car, even had fun playing with the manumatic CVT mode on one of 'em.

The CVTs between the Sentra and V are actually pretty closely related, since they're both MR series engines with no manumatic mode.

+1 great transmission, on the test drive I took it up to 90mph waiting for a shift.lol The manual shift mode is fairly quick too, and so far no signs of any slippage.....

When I test drove an Altima Coupe the dealer let me take it alone w/ family and I played around pretty harshly with a 3.5 SE, CVT did fine with that.

Now that I've got mine (2.7k miles) I've done one panicked stop (ABS Activated and Tires Squealing) and it worked perfectly fine afterwards.

One of the biggest pluses of the CVT is the way it retards the engine. This helps stop the car faster, and not to mention, saves some wear on your brakes.

Love it. I throw my CVT in Manual a bunch instead of breaking and just downshifting. Saves my breaks and retards the car.

You guys are making me want to turn in my 01 to go back to a form of an Automatic...

5spd what new cars use 5 gears anymore?

Everything is 6spd or CVT? I haven't even bothered to research the CVT yet... Might as well start now.
