about your trans downshift points:I'm interested to know if at closed throttle deceleration you shift 3-->2 at some speed, or does it go 3-->1 at a crawl (just before complete stop)?

i have the -68u10 TCU, which i believe '95s will have as well. But there is a separate number -67u00 TCU for production July 95 and up.

Most 93's have the -64u20 (i know i know a hundred times before, but does that one have 1st gear start?--if so, same question on the 3-->2 closed throttle downshift (or not))

i am also referencing the fy33, which will (nicely i might add) downshift into 2nd at around 25 mph, even at closed throttle. I expect the fy33's TCU would not be compatable w/ G50, but i can't say i've swappped it.

The up/down shift vs speed vs TPS [% of load] charts are found in FSM.

Use a Consult to data log these parameters. engine rpm, speed sensor, turbine sensor, gear command via solenoid, etc.

got it. mine is actually doing what fsm says it should (holding 3rd and shifting directly to 1st (one clutch action vs. three actions to go 3-->2 and then 2-->1). Of course, i can either get on it after rounding a corner and hit 2nd via tps signal. or i can move the selector into 2nd when i want 2nd but with light throttle. But i'm trying to understand if the 96 (different TCU) is different. my 97 is.

thanks Qship. consistent.

Wes, no 96 trans section. the 94 of course has the graphical throttle position vs shift schedule vs. speed chart. the '97 fsm does not have the graphical chart (just 1/2 throttle and full throttle), so i don't *really* know if it is expected on the '97, but think so.

anyone else? Tom K? Fargo?

I've never really paid any attention, GQ, sorry. It's sitting in the garage right now, all plugged in and cozy while the high temp today is gonna be under zero. I'll be taking it in for an oil change probably next week, so I can check then.

I think it probably downshifts straight to 1st. I can't remember that sensation of a shift into 2nd, and I recall that if you gas it while it's in that state - like 15-20 mph, you'll catch one of gears with some nice torque, chirping the tires, which probably means it's in 1st? I guess I remember of sort of a freewheeling sensation slowing to a stop out of 3rd.

I'll check next week.

Jay - Haven't noticed as wife drive the 96 most of the time. We still need to have the MAF replaced - should happen over this next week. Let me know if you want to do a test drive - could meet you after work w/the 96 (after MAF replacement).
