Hi everyone, I just joined here.
I've got a question for all the wise and experienced Nissan Pathfinder owners/fans
I am thinking on changing the transmission fluid of my Pathfinder, and according to what I've read, the transmission fluid should be the one which the manual recommends in this case, the ideal would be to get it from NISMO (http://www.thenismoshop.com) where I live is not so easy to get order these type of products, so my question in essence would be; is some other brand, with other specifications that would be equal or better for doing a change in the transmission fluid? if so..can I have recommendations? (e.g. Autozone, Napa, etc)
My car has more or less 94,000 miles and I am little by little changing and replacing parts, but I never had to deal with a change of transmission fluid, so please give your input in advice.
Thanks again for your response

i had mine changed 60k, then i changed it again at around 105-110k , and i used the Valvoline DEX/MERC for cars 75k miles and over.? i think it is Dex-merc atf, correct me if im wrong, but that should work fine.

edit: this is exactly what i used, i recommend it.

http://www.valvoline.com/products/brand ... n-fluid/37

also get a new filter for the trans from advance auto or autozone or something.

Whatever spec Dexron, Dexron II Dexron III your vehicle specifications are . Mercon, Valvoline etc whatever specification meet that spec. The trade name is not important but the specifications are.

That said the cheapest form of PM to protect the transmission from particles, worn out fluids, coolant problems is simply dump the fluid every 2 years and replace. At that time interval in 4 years you have replaced all or most of it, as long as you maintain the specifications you will remove particles, and keep your filter clean.

Keep an eye on the colour nice pink, not brown, if it turns brown dump and replace. Transmission oil is coloured so you can spot leaks and tell if it is burning from colour change, but you must look at it. Smell it. A 2 year interval or even a 1 year interval is good depends on driving habits and distance

Check out this thread Member Recommended Fluids and Filters for what a lot of us use and this thread How To: Change Transmission Oil/Filter/Pan Gasket 2001 for doing the work. Read through both of them in their entirety because there's lots of great info.

Ohh yeah, welcome to NICO!

EDIT: links to both of those thread amongst many others can be found in the "How To:" sticky at the top of the forum.
