[2008EX35 W/O Nav] - Question Bluetooth and Ipod

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hi, Recently I bought a used car, which is 2008ex35 with Premium and without Nav. I have Samsung Captivate. My phone works well with Bluetooth handset. I have questions

1. Bluetooth Streaming audio
What I want is Bluetooth Streaming audio. However, I can not find an option for that. Is there way to upgrade the software of car in order to use the system? I don't think it is the matter of hardware. It is the matter of software. Also, I want to download phonebook from my phone, but I can not find the way. Have anyone upgraded the software?

2. Ipod Cable
My car has an Ipod output under the center console, but I don't have a cable. Does it come with the car? or should I buy?

If onyone has figured out them, please let me know

There are only a limited number of phones that can download the phone book. Here is a link that will determine if your phone is one of them or if only the phone will pair up.

My 08 EX came with the IPOD cable, however the car is loaded with all packages and Nav. You might check with a dealer, but try it out before you buy it.

As for blue tooth streaming audio, I think it would take a major software improvement, as the BT is only intended for phone hookup.

Good luck with your EX - it's a great car. Mine is 41000 miles old and completely trouble free.

Thank you for replying it.

So, I guess that you are not using Bluetooth streaming audio. Is it right?
I was told that there is way to upgrade the software... Anyone knows?

I use Bluetooth to stream Pandora from my iPhone4 in my 2010 EX35 with Nav.

There is even a menu item for Bluetoooth audio.

I might be wrong but i believe that the 08 model do not support streaming song through BT. this feature is recently added to newer model EX.

Not exactly sure what kind of input the '08 model takes but I know these would work well for a '10+ model with the USB in the center compartment. Turns the iPod adapter in the car into bluetooth streaming (maybe they my have universal ones too for other MP3 player or USB devices with music in it).

Does anyone know if a nav firmware update will enable bluetooth audio streaming?

I assumed bluetooth streaming is hardware based, could be wrong. The bluetooth in the car (Non Nav) is just for phone calls, the bluetooth module itself would have to be A2DP cable in order for it to work. Maybe its possible for a software update or a possible hardware retrofit maybe another solution. Either way I think the dealer can only do it for you, if they are even willing to and at what cost (I say this because I can't imagine anyone have access to their software but themselves). If a dealer can charge $100's for a simple GPS map update, imagine they would charge for something like that. Right now the Radios with Navigation have the ability to do so (BT Streaming). Think of it as an operating system (So basically Non Nav is Windows 7 Basic, the one with Navigation is Windows 7 Ultimate), the current OS your running doesn't have that ability (Non Nav), so if they were to "update", it they would give you the software that has Navigation capabilities (Nav Menu and all), but then you would have a lot of features missing because of lack of hardware (Nav Unit, built in HDD, etc.). So then you would basically have a stripped down Nav software version, just to include BT Streaming which for them wouldn't be practical and cost effective, its why they bundle everything in a package (You'll notice you do NEED the updated Software because it has the option to Turn ON and OFF BT Streaming). A simple software update wouldn't really work if you think about it. Unless they decided to go out of their way and redesign their system software to not include Nav and other features, to just add BT Streaming capability (Same as if you were to buy a regular bluetooth headset and use it for phone calls but then one day decide to use as a mp3 headset. It just wouldn't work, thats why you'll notice they offer More Expensive headsets that are Bluetooth + A2DP Capable. Its why I assume it's hardware based). But that's just my thoughts if I were to get technical with it, hopefully what I said made some sense (have a fever and totally out of it lol).

... Just an assumption, always can ask your dealer and see what they say. Good luck, if it happens to workout, I'll be right behind you on the software upgrade since I don't have BT Streaming either.
