my father and i are going to undertake installing a clutch in my 89 s13 with an rb25det with the engine in the car and with out a lift. i did search nico but i didnt find a write up about doing a clutch in an rb swapped s13. i just want to know if im going to have to undo the engine mounts or if there is enough room to do it by just pulling the d/s and removing the trans mount do lower the transmission. i bought the car from xat a year ago with the swap i dont remember what mounts they used, but the trans mount looks stock. let me know what you think. i can take pics of my engine mounts if needed.

if the transmission mount looks stock, see if you have a stock driveshaft as well, or if the transmission is a skinny like a KA transmission. If so, you might have a RB20 transmission in which you might be able to do a straight foward clutch install. If you have the larger RB25 transmission, you might run into what I heard, removing the whole damn engine and transmission to do the job.

No, need to remove the motor. Me and my cousin changed my clutch in 1 hour under the car. After you do it a few times it gets progessively easier....

-Drain the transmission-4 bolts on rear end drop the DS/remove-remove shifter-remove transmission mount-remove 4 main bolts holding transmission to engine and remove the lower mount -blocks that support the transmission to the bottom of the block. Use a long extension (36") is what I use, and a swivel head for the two top bolts.-Pull off transmission-Then Clutch..-reassemble.-Drink beer.
